He studied mechanical engineering, and he graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering degree in 1901. He later became a mechanical engineer in Roanoke, Virginia.

The collection includes promotional materials, program descriptions, correspondence, newspaper clippings, reports, and film rental receipts as well as materials, such as a script and slides, that relate to a student-produced performance based on readings from diaries, letters, and contemporary newspaper accounts dealing with North Carolina's involvement in the Civil War. H. Thomas Kearney was an instructor in the History Department of North Carolina State University from 1970 to 1978.Kearney was involved with Transition, a program conducted by North Carolina State University during the 1970s and beyond. Billed as “an alternative freshman year,” the Transition program brought together about fifty freshmen for a small-scale group learning experience. In a residence hall setting, the students took courses in English, History, and Social Studies.

MoreThe Jesse P. Spoon Letters are ten letters documenting Spoon's life as a student at North Carolina College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts (now North Carolina State University). The letters are addressed to Robert A. Coble of Oakdale, North Carolina, who was Spoon's classmate at what Spoon calls "Oakdale School." This may refer to Oakdale Academy, which was a preparatory school in Alamance County. Spoon discusses military training, classes, and social receptions at the college, as well as other notable events like measles outbreaks. There is also some discussion of events in Oakdale, a community in the Patterson Township of Alamance County, North Carolina. The first seven letters were written from January to April 1903, with the following three being from March and May of 1904. Jesse Page Spoon was born on 20 January 1883 in Alamance County, North Carolina. He may have attended preparatory school at Oakdale Academy. In 1902 or 1903, he began attending North Carolina College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts (now North Carolina State University), where he earned a Bachelors of Agriculture in May 1908 and a Master of Science in 1909. In 1909 he worked at the college as a laboratory assistant in anatomy and physiology. He next attended the Kansas City Veterinary College in Kansas City, Missouri, earning a Doctor of Veterinary Surgery degree in 1911. He practiced veterinary medicine in Burlington, North Carolina, where he worked with Dr. W.A. Hornaday and served on the Burlington School Board and as Secretary of the North Carolina Veterinary Medical Association. He married Mable Clare Lea on 30 December 1915. They had two children, Margaret Jane Spoon and Mildred Lea Spoon. Jesse Page Spoon died on 29 October 1931 in Burlington, North Carolina.

Materials range in date from 1983 to 2015. The Coordinators of Advising Committee at North Carolina State University's College of Engineering worked closely with the Courses and Curricula Committee to provide guidance on academic regulations and policies and procedures for students in the College of Engineering. It served to disseminate information on new policies to advisors who would in turn inform students. Topics included dropping/adding classes, student transfers, grade requirements, course credits, Freshman orientation, study abroad, learning disabilities, and reports from Student Health Services. As of 2019, it appears there is one Coordinator of Advising in each college to fulfill the role of this committee.

The North Carolina State University, Enrollment Planning Committee reviews enrollment projections submitted by individual campus colleges and compares them with established enrollment trends and goals. The Committee maintains a university-wide enrollment plan, including recommendations for total size, undergraduate versus graduate students, transfer students, and diversity of the student body. Based on this plan, enrollment projections are submitted to the Board of Governors.

MoreThe records of Cary Hoyt Bostian's administration in the Office of the Chancellor at North Carolina State College (later, University) include correspondence, newspaper clippings, and other administrative papers. Topics include the safety and opperations of the on-campus nuclear reactor, the integration of African American students, increased enrollment, and other events and affairs of the campus during the time period of these records, 1954-1959. Carey H. Bostian joined the zoology faculty of North Carolina State College of Agriculture and Engineering (later North Carolina State University) in the autumn of 1930. He was appointed to several positions in the School of Agriculture. He was named associate dean in 1948, director of instruction in 1950, and professor of genetics and director of instruction in 1952. Bostian assumed the chancellorship of North Carolina State College in 1953, and he served in it until 1959, when he returned to teaching. During his tenure, the college completed a multi-million dollar expansion, the program of student activities was greatly enlarged, and enrollment passed 5000 for the first time.

The bulk of the material involves efforts by North Carolina State University to comply with federal statutory and regulatory requirements prohibiting discrimination. Also included are records of the Disability Services Office, which became part of the Office for Equal Opportunity in 1999. Most of the Disability Services material, comprising student records, is restricted, and will be deaccessioned according the disposition instructions for GU 323 (Services to Students with Disabilities) of the University of North Carolina (System) General Records Retention and Disposition Schedule. The Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Office oversaw all university activities related to compliance with federal and state laws prohibiting discrimination on the basis of race, gender, and disability. In July of 2011, the office of Equal Opportunity, Equity, and Compliance became a unit under the Office for Institutional Equity and Diversity. As of 2020, Equal Opportunity and Equity provides training, resources and assistance to address and end discrimination and harassment at NC State. Areas of focus include accommodations and accessibility, discrimination and harassment, Equal Employment Opportunity and affirmative action, pregnancy, and Title IX.

This office of African American Affairs worked in cooperation with the Affirmative Action Office. In 1990 North Carolina State University created a position of Coordinator of African American Affairs within the Office of the Provost. Dr. Augustus M. Witherspoon became the first to fill the position. Drs. William C. Grant, Rupert W. Nacoste, and Jose A. Picart have followed in his footsteps. By 2000 the position had become the Vice Provost for Diversity and African American Affairs. The Vice Provost for Diversity and African American Affairs had the primary responsibility of forging a shared vision concerning the recruitment, retention, and graduation of a diverse student body.

Beginning in 1894 all students at North Carolina College of Agricultural and Mechanic Arts (who were all male at the time) were designated as cadets and required to attend military drill three hours per week. Many early photographs from the 1890s to the 1910s show students in their cadet uniforms.
