In 2026, we held two accessibility fix-a-thons for developers to collaborate on accessibility issues in real time.

Databases usability study 2025
After launching a new set of features for our research databases discovery platform, we conducted a series of usability tests and interviews to evaluate user attitudes towards the new features. We received positive feedback about the new features from participants, with the majority completing all tasks successfully.

Annonatate Usability Study
Students provided feedback on Annonatate, a web app for annotating images. Their feedback focused on the appearance of the application and confusion regarding navigation and sharing their work.

Visualization Spaces Development Kit for Unity Game Engine
Augmenting an industry-standard creative tool to better suit the needs of our students, instructors, researchers, and other campus creators in a one-of-a-kind Libraries space.

Readability Widget + Tiny Café
Participants gave us feedback on a pilot project—the Readability Widget. Overall, they had positive feedback. They especially liked the “Warm Background” option.

eMammal Lite
A publicly available web application and Hunt Library video wall exhibit that allows users to explore and identify animals captured in over 4,000 camera trap images from research projects around the world. eMammal lite was decommissioned in February 2022.

Special Collections Asset Management System
The Special Collections Asset Management System manages the metadata for digital collections. The web-based interface allows authenticated users to edit descriptive metadata. Parts of digitization workflow and descriptive metadata are automated through semantic identifiers.

A digital audio archive of North Carolina speech with analytical tools designed for linguists.

StudiosBot: Custom Automation for Studios Service
StudiosBot is an in-house automation suite designed to streamline operations across the Libraries' five staffed experiential learning spaces that comprise The Studios. By layering structured administrative workflows over a low-friction communication hub, the bot leverages Discord to automate elements of personnel scheduling, documentation, and reservation management for a large, collaborative student workforce.

E-Matrix at the NC State University Libraries
E-Matrix is the locally developed serial and electronic resource management system in use at the NC State University Libraries. This tool acknowledges that the issues associated with electronic resources mirror those that face our serial collection as a whole, regardless of format. E-Matrix therefore supports the effective management of the Libraries' serial collection by managing print and electronic journals and databases.

The Web API to the NC State Scholarly Publications Repository (SPR) is designed to allow access to SPR citations and metadata in a machine readable format. By providing a documented interface to the citation repository the Web Service both facilitates data reuse and encourages contributions to the repository.
