The North Carolina State University, Division of Student Affairs, Reserve Officers' Training Corps Records, 1904-2002, contains scrapbooks, memoranda, pamphlets, correspondences, newsletters, instruction books, newsclippings, and other administrative files relating to the activities and events of the campus ROTC program’s Air Force, Army, and Navy branches. They also include records of N. C. State’s Air Science and Tactics Department and the Military Science and Tactics Department. The North Carolina State University’s Reserve Officer’s Training Corp (ROTC) is a group of four campus programs, the Army, Air Force, Navy, and Marine Corps which train officers of the United State armed forces in basic military and officer training. The North Carolina State University, Division of Student Affairs, Student Media Authority Records contain budget and financial statements, contracts, correspondence, minutes, staff applications, layout and design information, and publications. There is also a large amount of photographic materials, including CDs, DVDs, photographic prints, negatives, contact sheets, and slides, most of which are from student photographers. The collection includes records of the Student Media Board, 1928-2008, the Agromeck office from 1909 to 2011, the Technician office from 1939 to 2011, the WKNC Radio Station from 1922 to 2006, the Windhover from 1928 to 2013, the Nubian Message from 2007 to 2009, and a small number of records, 1926-2022, from other publications. The Student Media Authority at North Carolina State University oversees creation of campus student publications at North Carolina State University, which include a yearbook, a daily newspaper, literary magazine, and African American student newspaper. It also oversees the student radio station, WKNC, and student television station, Wolf TV. The Publications Board was formed at North Carolina State College in or before 1933 to oversee creation of student publications. By 1937, it included representatives from student publications such as the Agromeck, Technician, Wataugan, Southern Engineer, and Agriculturist. By the late 1940s, it also included representatives from the student radio station WVWP. In the following decades, the organization continued to oversee the finances and leadership of student publications at North Carolina State University. It underwent various name changes, becoming known as the Student Media Board by the mid-2000s. As of 2010, Student Media is part of the Division of Student Affairs and is based in Witherspoon Student Center. It includes 220 paid and volunteer student positions. Less

The records of the North Carolina State University Student Organization Resource Center contain forms completed by student organizations to register their organizations with the university, as well as constitutions, bylaws, correspondence, office records, and other administrative information about the organizations. Materials range in date from 1942 to 2009. The North Carolina State University Student Organization Resource Center, now known as the James H. Woodward Student Involvement Center, exists to meet the needs of students who are interested in involvement on campus through organized groups. As a part of the Division of Student Affairs, one of the Student Involvement Center's main responsibilities is to advise students who start or participate in registered student organizations. As of 2017, there are more than 700 registered student organizations at NC State, including Student Government and the Union Activities Board. The records of the North Carolina State University, Division of Student Affairs, Union Activities Board contain meeting minutes, agendas, manuals, rosters, reports, budgets, proposals, photographs, slides, flyers, CDs, calendars, posters, handbills, membership forms, task list, correspondence, bulletins, and archived web content. Materials are dated from 1954 to present. Founded in 1951 as the College Union Board of Chairmen and renamed in the early 1970s, the Union Activities Board develops and carries out social and cultural programs for students. The mission statement specified in the Union Activities Board bylaws, as revised on 18 March 2013, was “For students by students, the Union Activities Board creates innovative activities that stimulate, motivate, educate, and involve the student body.“ Seven committees were chartered in the bylaws as revised on 18 March 2013: Black Students Board, Diviersity Activities Board, Films, Issues and Ideas, Late Night and Concerts, Leisure and Entertainment, and Marketing. The records of the North Carolina State University Career Center contain brochures, correspondence, manuals, reports, and schedules. The records document the activities of the center from 1957 to 2010. The earliest documents included are placement reports produced by the engineering department's placement center prior to the formation of the Career Planning and Placement Center in 1964. The University Career Center placement reports and interview schedules include statistics on numbers of companies coming to campus to interview students and number of students gaining employment or internships. The North Carolina State University Career Center assists students in preparing for professional careers. The Center was founded in 1964 as the Career Planning and Placement Center as conceived by Chancellor John T. Caldwell who saw the need to have a central placement office to coordinate activities for the entire University. Prior to the formation of the central office, each department and school's placement office operated independently. In 1993, the name was changed to the University Career Center. The University Career Center works to provide programs including on-campus interviews, placement assistance, and other services across the university while also supporting departments and schools with individual needs. Included are correspondence and memorandums, meeting minutes and agendas, budgetary and financial information, reports, rules and policies, departmental constitutions and bylaws, schedules, event and activity proposals, other administrative papers, newspaper clippings, booklets, flyers, pamphlets, programs, calendars, invitations, brochures, other promotional and publicity materials, and the scrapbooks and loose materials removed from them. Also included are archiveed versions of the web site of North Carolina State University’s Student Center. The University Student Center of North Carolina State University is a student organization established to give students and other community members a centralized location on campus which provides essential facilities, programs, and services. It was established with the purpose of enriching students' lives by teaching them social and recreational skills, and to provide them with the opportunity of extracurricular activity without having to leave campus. These records reflect the history of the Center itself by including the files related to the general administrative and departmental transactions of the organization, as well as files reflecting the production and promotion of its events, services, and activities. Containing a variety of materials ranging in dates from 1941 to 2008, the records show how the Center has greatly changed, but it still provides the services for which it was established. Less

The records of the North Carolina State University Office of the Vice-Chancellor of Student Affairs, 1889-2008, contain correspondence, reports, and memoranda pertaining to student life on campus including admissions, financial aid, residence life, counseling, student conduct, arts organizations, Greek organizations, housing and residence life, and the administration of student organizations. Records include files from the Associate Vice Chancellor's office, Alumni Association, Athletics, Financial Aid, and Student Government. The Division of Student Affairs at North Carolina State University provided programs and services for students and the larger community to enhance quality of life, facilitate intellectual, ethical and personal growth, and create a culture which engenders respect for human diversity. Through these activities the Division of Student Affairs support student learning with the principle of “Students First.” In 2011, the Division of Student Affairs merged with the Division of Undergraduate Academic Programs to become the Division of Academic and Student Affairs (DASA). This collection includes issues of Faculty Publications and Research for the years 1950 to 1972. Issues from 1950 to 1963 are also numbered as issues of the North Carolina State College of Agriculture and Engineering State College Record. Faculty Publications and Research together with Abstracts of Doctoral Dissertations and Master's Theses was published by the Graduate School of North Carolina State College from 1950 to 1959. In 1960, the publication title changed to Faculty Publications and Research, even though it still included titles of doctoral dissertations and master's theses accepted in the various departments during the period covered by each issue. Beginning with the 1964-1965 issue, Faculty Publications and Research was compiled by the Administrative Dean for Research, a position established in 1965. The Administrative Dean for Research continued to compile the publication, at least until 1972. Beginning with the 1966-1967 issue, Faculty Publications and Research no longer listed titles of master's theses, but it continued to list doctoral dissertation titles. Less

The Faculty Senate General Records contain files of all administrative aspects of the Faculty Senate. The bulk of the records come from different committees and include materials on honorary degrees, the search for a new chancellor, Board of Trustees, Chancellor's Liasion, elections, budget, and student affairs. Also included are materials on the selection of outstanding teachers and Watauga Medal recepients, retention of African American students, Founders Day events, and other administrative functions of the Faculty Senate. The first Faculty Council meetings were held in 1923, and the Council remained in place as an ad hoc advisory board to the then College President. At one point in time this faculty group may have also been called the Advisory Committee of the General Faculty. In 1954, the Faculty Senate was organized to replace the old Faculty Council. Less

These records contain bound and unbound minutes of meetings of the North Carolina State University Faculty Senate. Formerly known as the Faculty Council and the Advisory Committee of the General Faculty, the Faculty Senate provides advice to the Chancellor and, through the Chancellor, to the Board of Trustees. In this role, the Faculty Senate discusses with or provides information to any administrator with authority and responsibility for a decision, recommends policies to any administrator who is authorized to make a decision, and makes policy recommendations to the Chancellor, Provost and Vice Chancellors. Collection contains bound volumes of correspondence, deposit slips, bank statements, transfer forms, common funds statements, audit reports, accounting summary reports on NC State University Foundations. The Foundations Accounting & Investments department reports to the Treasurer's Office and is responsible for investment management, accounting, budgeting, financial reporting, board communications, benchmarking, University associated-entity reporting, audits, tax returns, and other help and guidance to campus units to assist them in managing their foundation and endowment resources. The North Carolina State University, Friends of the College Records, 1959-1994, contain brochures, campaign materials, contracts, correspondence, photographs, programs, publicity materials, season materials, and slides relating to the operation of the Friends of the College and featured performances sponsored by the organization. Also included are Friends of the College Board of Directors records. The Friends of the College Concert Series was started in 1959 as an attempt by North Carolina State College (later University) to increase its visibility and role in the local community. The first director of the program was Gerald Erdahl, then the director of the College Student Union. From 1959 until 1993, the Friends of the College sponsored hundreds of concerts and other cultural presentations in Reynolds Coliseum. The Friends of the College sponsored no performances after 1994 and became defunct soon thereafter. Less

The General Faculty Meeting Records are primarily comprised of the minutes from meetings held by the President, later Chancellor, and faculty at North Carolina State University. The minutes cover all aspects of running the university, and include discussions of the curriculum, organization of the academic calendar, finances, requirements for admittance and withdrawal, scheduling for the school year, and issues between students and professors, among many other topics. Also included in the collection are general faculty bylaws and a small amount of correspondence and resolutions. Materials date from 1889 to 1980. Alexander Holladay, J.R. Chamberlain, W.F. Massey, W.A. Withers, D.H. Hill Jr., and J.H. Kinealy comprised the entire administration of the North Carolina College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts when the faculty met for the first time on Oct. 13, 1889. Alexander Quarles Holladay was the first chief executive of the (then) college. In 1889, Holladay applied to the North Carolina College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts for the position of professor of English, but the Board of Trustees appointed him as the first college president instead. President Holladay and the faculty met regularly to discuss all matters of running the college, including any issues with the student body, which was only 50 students at the time. Holladay served the institution until failing health forced his retirement in 1899. He died in Raleigh, North Carolina, in 1909. Less

This subgroup contains correspondence, memoranda, course action forms, recommendations on curricula and courses, material pertaining to admission of foreign students, faculty issues, degree programs and minutes of the Administrative Board relating to the governance of the Graduate School. Graduate instruction was first offered at North Carolina State University in 1893, and the first doctoral degree was conferred in 1926. In the ensuing years, the Graduate School has grown steadily and has provided instruction and facilities for advanced study and research in the fields of agriculture and life sciences, design, education, engineering, natural resources, humanities and social sciences, management, physical and mathematical sciences, textiles and veterinary medicine. Graduate instruction began at North Carolina State University in 1893, with the first Master's degree conferred in 1894 doctoral degree in 1926. A Graduate School existed from 1923 to 1931, but it was eliminated with the consolidation of the public universities in North Carolina. It was re-established at NC State during the 1950s. Less

The records of the Office of International Programs include reports, publications, meeting minutes, and other general records. The first international student at NC State University matriculated in 1893 and there were no special facilities or services for international students until the early 1960s. When the number of international students grew large enough and student immigration regulations became complex enough, the University formed an International Student Office (ISO) as a unit in Student Affairs. In the spring of 1996, the ISO was merged with the scholars branch of the Office of International Programs, was re-structured and re-named, and placed in Academic Affairs. Less
