The North Carolina State University, Division of Student Affairs, Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Records contain correspondence, reports, memoranda, committee meeting notes, and artifacts from Evelyn Q. Reiman, former Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs. These materials range in date from 1955 to 2012. The Division of Student Affairs at North Carolina State University provided programs and services for students and the larger community to enhance quality of life, facilitate intellectual, ethical and personal growth, and create a culture which engenders respect for human diversity. The Faculty Senate General Records contain files of all administrative aspects of the Faculty Senate. The bulk of the records come from different committees and include materials on honorary degrees, the search for a new chancellor, Board of Trustees, Chancellor's Liasion, elections, budget, and student affairs. Also included are materials on the selection of outstanding teachers and Watauga Medal recepients, retention of African American students, Founders Day events, and other administrative functions of the Faculty Senate. The first Faculty Council meetings were held in 1923, and the Council remained in place as an ad hoc advisory board to the then College President. The records of Multicultural Student Affairs at North Carolina State University contain correspondence, event flyers, handbooks, brochures, posters, scrapbooks, and records from the administration of the Peer Mentor Program. Many of the materials pertain to the planning of the annual African American Symposium, as well as the Native American and Hispano/Latino Symposia. Materials range in date from 1979 to 2015. African-American Student Affairs was established as a department at North Carolina State University in 1984; in 2001, the department was renamed Multicultural Student Affairs after Hispanic Student Affairs and Native American Student Affairs were added. Under the Office for Institutional Equity and Diversity, Multicultural Student Affairs aims to create dynamic programs to promote the academic success, graduation, and retention of African American, Native American, and Latinx students. The North Carolina State University, Office of the Provost, African American Cultural Center Records contain agendas, flyers, and other materials pertaining to the African American Heritage Society's annual meetings and events. These events include Heritage Day, the Pan-Afrikan Festival, and the Heritage Symposium. This collection also contains Advisory Committee minutes, correspondence, agendas, and publicity related to the annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Cultural Festival. There are general records as well, which contain materials related to the building of the Cultural Center Annex, now the Witherspoon Student Center, and the African American Cultural Center's involvement in the planning. Materials range in date from 1984 to 2022. The African American Cultural Center promotes awareness of and appreciation for African American and other African descent experiences through activities and events that enhance academic excellence and strengthen cultural competence for the campus and surrounding communities. As a unit of the Office of Institutional Equity and Diversity, the African American Cultural Center is an indispensable component of NC State University’s mission of “building a diverse and inclusive campus community, fostering demographic and intellectual diversity, fostering internal and external partnerships and adopting an operational model that embraces efficiency and accountability.” The Center also operates the African American Cultural Library and Cultural Art Gallery.
