The William Rand Kenan, Jr. Library of Veterinary Medicine is located at the College of Veterinary Medicine, which is west of the main NC State University campus and across from the NC State Fairgrounds.

Service animals are the only animals allowed in the Veterinary Medicine Library.

Directions to the VML

Public transportation

The College of Veterinary Medicine is a stop on the Wolfline Bus, which is free for all to ride.

  • In the fall and spring semesters, take the Route 60 Carter Finley to the VML. It runs every 20 minutes between 7am–7pm and every 40 minutes between 7pm–10pm
  • During the summer, take the Route 60S Carter Finley to the VML.

Permit holders

C permit parking is available to the west of the main building parking lot, the Terry Companion Animal Veterinary Medical Center parking lot to the south, and the CBC Parking deck to the southwest which also has CC parking spaces.

Parking lots on the CVM campus are available for C (including CC, CB, CD) and W parking permit-holders.

Visitor parking

Visitor parking permits are required Monday through Friday, 7am–5pm. There is a visitor parking pay station with numbered spaces: $2 first hour; $1 for each consecutive half hour. The pay station accepts credit and debit cards only (no cash). For more information, see NC State University Transportation.

Free parking is occasionally available at the NC State Fairgrounds across the street from the CVM.

Library entrance

At the College, cross the large lawn in front of the main building to the entrance marked 'College of Veterinary Medicine'. Go downstairs under the whale skeleton, through the doors, and turn right to enter the VML.

Accessible entrance

The VML is accessible via an elevator from the main entrance to the lower level. A receptionist provides access to the area containing the elevator (8am–5pm, Monday–Friday). For access during the other hours when the Library is open, please call the library service desk at (919) 513-6218. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Late hours

After 10pm, a valid Wolfpack One Card is required for access to the Libraries. CVM-affiliated card access is required at the front entrance to the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) Main Building weekdays after 5 pm and on the weekends.

If you are a NC State faculty, staff, or student and your card does not work on the card access unit, please call the Library staff at (919) 513-6218 and someone will come to the entrance to let you in.

In the VML, our print collection is shelved together at the south end of the library according to the Library of Congress classification system.
