This collection contains black-and-white photographic prints depicting the North Carolina State College (later University) School (later College) of Textiles. Represented in the photographs are faculty, students, and equipment, as well as lab facilities in Nelson Hall and David Clark Labs. Most images are undated, but all appear to have been created during the 1950s and early 1960s. Likewise, there is little information on the photographers, but all appear to have been created by photographers employed or contracted by the college. Floyd probably collected these images when he was employed at the college. During the 1950s and 1960s, Gene G. The Geoffrey Duart McLean Landscape Architecture Photographs and Drawings includes digital files that are scans of original drawings, photographic prints, and slides. The scans were done in 2012; the original photographs date from 1963-circa 1990. These images show McLean's projects on the North Carolina State University campus and Raleigh's Eastgate Park. McLean's work for landscape architect Lewis Clarke and architect A. G. Odell is also included. Additional unprocessed materials (drawings, slides, etc.) have also been added that document McLean's landscape architecture projects. Geoffrey McLean graduated from the North Carolina State University School of Design in 1969 with a degree in landscape architecture. He studied under noted landscape architect Lewis Clarke. His firm, Geoffrey McLean & Company, commenced business in 1971. In addition to being a licensed landscape architect, McLean is also a professional engineer. He has been a member of the Wake County Planning Board and Board of Supervisors for the Wake County Soil and Water Conservation District. He was president of the North Carolina Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects from 1979 to 1981. Less

The John D. Mattox Papers contain photographic prints, negatives, and contact sheets, and papers depicting the personal and professional life of John D. Mattox. Personal portraits and snapshots document the lives of Mattox, his wife Mary, their son Douglas, and their extended family. Also included are photographs of the town of Wendell, North Carolina, where the Mattox family lived. The collection also includes photographs taken while Mattox served in Europe during World War II. Relating to Mattox’s professional career as a photographer at North Carolina State University, there are many images of campus scenes, student and faculty portraits, and campus publications featuring Mattox’s work. Wedding photographs, miscellaneous portraits, unidentified original and copied tintypes and cartes de visite, as well as rolled 35 mm negatives are also included. While the majority of the collection is composed of photographs, there are some papers such as news clippings, correspondence, business cards, awards, brochures, and grade reports which belonged to Mattox. John Douglas Mattox, Sr. (1911-1987) was a photographer with the Visual Aids Department at North Carolina State University from 1949 to 1974. A native of Wendell, North Carolina, Mattox attended North Carolina State College (later North Carolina State University) in the 1930s and enlisted in the Army in 1941, serving in Europe. He married the former Mary Elizabeth Davis of Columbia, South Carolina, and had a son John Douglas Mattox, Jr., called Doug. Mattox was a talented amateur musician and director of the North Carolina State University R.O.T.C. Glee Club. Less

Contained here is a black-and-white 8 x 10 inch photograph of the parking lot south of Tucker and Owen Residence Halls (dormitories) on the North Carolina State College (now University) campus. The photographer is unknown. The depicted parking lot later became Cates Ave. The photo shows the view to the west, and in the distance are some of the Vetville married housing unit. North Carolina State University was established in 1887 as the North Carolina College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts (A&M College), and the College opened in 1889. In 1917, the institution's name was changed to North Carolina State College of Agriculture and Engineering (State College). In 1931, it became a part of the Consolidated University of North Carolina. In 1965 the name changed to North Carolina State University, and since 1972 it has been one of the constituent institutions of the multi-campus University of North Carolina system. Less

This collection contains one black-and-white photograph (5 inches x 3.5 inches) depicting the house lived in by Bob and Bettie Buhler in the Vetville community on the NC State College campus. The reverse of the photograph has a hand-drawn floorplan of the house. An additional email printout from the Buhler's daughter (Deborah B. Lincoln) provides further description about the house. Robert McCollum "Bob" Buhler was a student at NC State College (later named NC State University) in the early 1950s. Beginning in 1950, he and his wife Bettie lived in a small single-unit house (18 foot x 18 foot) in the Vetville community on the college campus. The house was disassembled and moved to Alamance County, NC, after Bob Buhler graduated in 1952. He was later a land surveyor in North Carolina and Georgia. Less

The Sharon Curtin Papers, 1964-2020, contain photographs, newsclippings, notes, correspondence, and other materials primarily documenting the NC State University campus and the Department of Poultry Science. There is some information on Poultry Science faculty members and staff. Also included is a book that Curtin wrote about growing up near Weaverville, North Carolina, and photographs and a DVD showing her husband, Terrence M. Curtin, in 2020. Diane Sharon Saunders was born in Weaverville, North Carolina, in 1942. She came to NC State University in the 1960s and worked as a research technician in the Department of Poultry Science labs under Dr. Pat B. Hamilton for many years. From 1981 to 1986, she was in the microbiology lab of the College of Veterinary Medicine. In 1987, she married Dean Terry of the College of Veterinary Medicine. Less
