MoreThe Richard Porter Papers, 1975-1995, undated, includes syllabi, laboratory notes, and correspondence related to materials science reseach and teaching; photographic materials include slides and glass plate negatives. The collection also includes a number of material samples--especially guitar strings. Richard L. Porter (1946-1999) was affiliated with North Carolina State University for 18 years as a teacher, administrator, and researcher. He started as a professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering. At the time of his unexpected death on July 22, 1999, he was the Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs of the College of Engineering. Porter was instrumental in the development of the Engineering Undesignated program. Dr. Porter’s son, Nicolas Richard Porter, established the Richard L. Porter Memorial Scholarship in 2000.
