C. State and, more broadly, across the state of North Carolina. Materials include publications and correspondence related to conferences on critical environmental issues either sponsored by N. C. State or featuring presentations by N. C. State faculty including Dr. A. C. Barefoot, the University Coordinator for Environmental Studies in the mid-to-late 1970s. There is also correspondence, agendas, and publications related to the Council on Envionmental Studies, a conglomeration of professionals with environmental studies backgrounds who met to discuss the primary environmental issues facing North Carolina and how best to approach those issues. One of the preeminent members of the council was Dr. A. C. Barefoot. Finally, the collection includes student project proposals for N. C. State's Environment Grant. The grant was facillitated and projects were approved by University Coordinator for Environmental Studies, Dr. A. C. Barefoot. Materials range in date from 1973 to 1980. The Environmental Studies Program was first proposed in 1973 as a way to coordinate environmental studies at N. C. State. In the mid-to-late 1970s, the University Coordinator for Environmental Studies coordinated the various research efforts happening at the graduate level in the area of environmental research. Dr. A. C. Barefoot acted as the University Coordinator in the mid-to-late 1970s.
