The records of the University Dining Committee at North Carolina State University contain memoranda, correspondence, meeting minutes, suggestions on improving food service operations, clippings, newsletters, reports, a survey on the food service program, and other records related to the functioning of the committee. Materials range in date from 1956 to 1986. The Cafeteria Advisory Committee was established in or before 1956 at North Carolina State College to monitor the food service operations at the college, assess comments and feedback from students, and provide recommendations for improvements to the college's food service operation. In 1971, the Cafeteria Advisory Committee was renamed the Food Services Committee, and tasked by the chancellor to conduct an investigation into revising the entire food service operation for what had become North Carolina State University. Sometime after this, the committee's name was again changed to the University Dining Committee. This committee remains active as of 2011, continuing to act in an advisory capacity for the University Dining office. Less

This collection contains proposals from students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community members for North Carolina State University's first official flag. The designs were submitted as part of a contest that took place in 2000. Most are color computer print-outs glued to foam boards. A few of the proposals were hand-colored with marker, and many contain brief handwritten or typed notes from the designer. Flat folder 4 contains two silk-screened flags. In May of 2000, North Carolina State University announced a contest to select the school's first official flag. They received over 100 submissions from students, alumni, faculty, staff, and community members. A panel of students, faculty, and alumni chose the top five proposals, and in September of 2000 the Board of Trustees selected the winner. Chosen by a vote of 9-2, the winning design came from Lynn Koonce, a graphic designer in N.C. State's Office of Public Affairs. Less

North Carolina State University's University Government Committee Records include memos, reports, drafts and letters documenting the work of at the committee. The most prominent aspect of that work was the establishment of the Faculty Senate and the refinement of mechanisms for faculty representation in University academic administration during the years 1952-1974. There are also a single folder of materials relating to an earlier iteration of the Committee and its 1946 report, and a folder of documents from the mid-1980s regarding faculty status of librarians. Aside from this folder, the records do not document the Committee's activities after 1974, although the Committee appears to remain in existence up to the present (August 2011). A College Committee on Government and Administration was formed in 1945 to survey the governmental structure of the then North Carolina State College. It issued a report and appears to have disbanded the following year. In 1952 a Committee on College Government was formed to recommend "an instrument of faculty government." Based on its recommendations, a Faculty Senate was instituted on a three-year trial basis in 1954, and the Committee was charged with observing the faculty government and make recommendations for its improvement. The trial period was extended an additional three years in 1957, and in 1960 the Committee recommended that the Senate be established on a permanent basis. The Committee continued to observe faculty government, and made additional recommendations. Its name was changed to the University Government Committee in 1967. The committee was abolished in 2006 and its duties are now handled by the Executive Committee of the Faculty Senate. Less

This collection is comprised of the working papers of the University Honors Council, which was responsible for managing the University Honors Program at North Carolina State University. Most of the items date from 1987-2001, and relate to the day-to-day operations of the University Honors Council. Items such as university brochures, program descriptions, correspondence, Honors Convocation materials, and program handbooks are included in the collection. The University Honors Council was responsible for overseeing the development and operation of the University Honors Program and for recommending to the Provost policies to enhance academic excellence among undergraduates at North Carolina State University. The records of the North Carolina State University Library Committee span from 1934 to 1998 and include the records of the Library Building Committee, a subcommittee of the Library Committee formed to oversee the construction of additional library facilities in the 1960s. Included in the collection are the minutes of the committee, fund allocations, correspondence from various departments and information on library policy. Documents relating to construction in the 1960s span from 1965 to 1967 and include bound proposals for the construction and use of the facility. Documents are arranged chronologically, with building committee records following full committee records. The North Carolina State University (North Carolina College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts, 1887-1917; North Carolina State College, 1917-1965) Library Committee was first formed in 1908. English professors, Thomas P. Harrison and George Summey were appointed as co-chairs of the library committee. The role of the committee was to contact faculty for recommendations of titles to be added to the library collection. The role of the library committee has expanded since this time and, though it still advises on accessions, it also handles the finnancial responsibilities of the library, oftentimes advocating for more facility resources and making descisions on library policies. As of 2012, the University Library Committee (also referred to as the University Standing Committee on Library) advises the Provost and the Director of Libraries on the fomulation of library policy in relationship to development of resources, the allocation of book funds, the allocation of library space and the general development of library service to the University. The University Logo Committee Records include minutes and memos from the North Carolina State University, University Logo Committee and samples of items that the committee produced or helped to produce including letterhead, forms, bulletins, brochures, and catalogues, all from the 1970s. There is no discernible record about when the North Carolina State University, University Logo Committee began nor when it ended. Based upon what is available in the collection, it is clear that is existed in the 1970s, and members assisted in the production of university letterhead, brochures, catalogues, and forms. Some memorandums show that the Chancellor, some faculty members, and members of the School of Design were involved with this committee. The purpose for the committee appears to be to come up with a logo that would be consistent campus-wide for production upon letterhead, stationery, brochures, and other such materials used to promote the university or in correspondence from the university. Now the logo and other such marketing entities are managed by a group called NC State University Brand that releases a guide each year describing which logos will be used and how they should be used. The NC State University Brand group has the same objective--to create a consistent, campus-wide use of logos. Less

The records of the North Carolina State University, University Neighborhood Committee include meeting minutes, information on officers, student surveys, appointment letters, agendas and reports. Materials range in dates from 1982 to 1985. In September 1982 Chancellor Bruce R. Poulton appointed a University Neighborhood committee to study and recommend policies and programs that would address environmental concerns and neighborhood relationships for North Carolina State University. The committee consisted of North Carolina State University faculty and staff, Raleigh city leaders and restaurant owners on Hillsborough Street. The issues discussed were long-range University land use and acquisition plans, parking and traffic concerns of the campus, neighborhood, and businesses. The committee also discussed the appropriate mix of housing to maintain residential communities and to meet needs of University students, staff and faculty. Less

The records of the University Open House Committee at North Carolina State University contain memoranda, meeting minutes, annual reports, press releases, and other materials related to the planning of the annual open house for prospective students at the university. Materials range in date from 1973 to 1994. The University Open House Committee was established in or before 1973 at North Carolina State University to plan and conduct an open house for prospective students one weekend a year during the fall semester. The open house was occassionally also called the "All-University Day," and would include tours of the campus, sessions where prospective students could meet with the academic units to discuss programs of study, and was held on a weekend when a home football game was being played so that aspects of the cultural and social life of campus could also be portrayed to prospective students. As of 2011, North Carolina State University still holds an annual open house event in the fall semester, but planning for this event has become the responsibility of the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. The University Planning Committee Records contain meeting agendas and minutes, memos, calendars, reports, and other documents produced by and about the North Carolina State University, University Planning Committee from 1948 to 1991 with a gap from 1953 to 1983. While the purpose of the committee was to plan the development of the university, the contents within the collection are primarily about the committee itself. According to the contents of the collection, the North Carolina State University, University Planning Committee was meant to develop university-wide, long-range goals that serve as guidelines for the development of departments, colleges, schools, and administrative units. These goals were related to research, graduate education, diversity, and several other subtopics. The earliest documentation from 1948 calls the entity the Planning Committee of the School of Engineering of the North Carolina State College of Agriculture and Engineering at the University of North Carolina, indicating that the committee was originally formed only for the School of Engineering and later expanded to serve the university as a whole. There is no record of when this committee began or who started it; from the collection, it is clear that it existed in some form as of 1948. The University Planning Committee appears to have existed as late as 2005 but in the present, as of 2012, it has been replaced by the Strategic Planning Committee started in 2010 by Chancellor Randy Woodson. This committee serves the same functions as the University Planning Committee. Less

The records of the University Transportation Committee at North Carolina State University contain correspondence, memoranda, meeting minutes, brochures and pamphlets, and other information regarding traffic and parking policies at North Carolina State University. Materials range in date from 1951 to 1984. The College Traffic Committee was established at North Carolina State College in or before 1951 to determine traffic and parking regulations and procedures for the campus. In its early years, the College Traffic Committee worked closely with the Student Government Traffic Committee, which served as the student voice in campus traffic matters. In 1970, the College Traffic Committee was renamed the Parking & Traffic Committee, and was again renamed (in 1980) as the University Transportation Committee. At some point in North Carolina State University's history, a department on campus was formed and dedicated to the daily maintenance and regulation of traffic procedures (as of 2010, North Carolina State University Transportation). Records for the University Traffic Committee end abruptly following the conclusion of the 1983-1984 academic year; the duties and functions of this committee were possibly absorbed by the University's Transportation department, or may also have been incorporated into the duties of the Physical Environment Committee. The records of the North Carolina State University Use of Human Subjects in Research Committee contain memoranda, meeting minutes, annual reports, grant proposals, and other materials relating to the committee's work. Materials range in date from 1966 to 1988. The Use of Human Subjects in Research Committee was established at North Carolina State University in 1966 following policies put in place by the National Institutes of Health which required any research involving human subjects to be reviewed and approved by appropriate authorities prior to being authorized. The Use of Human Subjects in Research Committee reviewed any grant proposals involving human subjects prior to the submission of those proposals for funding. This committee remained active through at least 1988, though appears to have since dissolved. Less

Materials range in date from 1975 to 2010. The Watauga Medal Committee was established at North Carolina State University in 1975 under the leadership of Chancellor John T. Caldwell. The records of the Women's Studies Committee at North Carolina State University span from 1981 to 1990, in addition to one document dated 1976. The papers include correspondence and other records, many of which are addressed to Lina L. Cofresi, who was integral in the success of the program. The correspondence and records are arranged chronologically in two folders. In addition to these folders, a file with collection of pamphlets, articles, and fliers, a folder of syllabi and course information, a file of newspapers and periodicals, and a folder of undated materials are included in the collection. The formation of a Women's Studies program at North Carolina State University seems to have been an interest as early as 1976, but its establishment does not appear to be pursued actively until the early to mid 1980s. Lina L. Cofresi, a faculty member at North Carolina State University, was essential to the founding of this program. Much of the correspondence included in the records is addressed to her. The first reference to the Women's Studies Curriculum Committee is, apparently, included in a note, addressed to professor Cofresi, and attached to course curriculum from 1986. The original intent of this group was to form a Women's Studies minor and learn about how to further incorporate Women's Studies into the University. The Women's and Gender Studies Program was established at North Carolina State University in 1989. A major in Women's and Gender Studies was added in 2006. The Women's Studies Curriculum Committee is referred to by several names, these include the Women's Studies Minor Committee and the Women's Studies Program Committee. Less

This collection contains memoranda addressed to NC State deans, directors, and department heads, 1977-2007. These memos cover a variety of topics, and some also include supporting documents. There may be gaps in this collection because these memos have been pulled together from a variety of sources. Memos dated June 2007 and later are posted on the university's website. Since the 1970s NC State University administrators and administrative units have have communicated certain information for wide distribution through "Deans, Directors and Department Heads Memoranda." At some point these became known as "DDD Memos" and later as "3D Memos." While they cover a variety of topics, these memos have been, for the most part, notifications of changes in operations, procedures, and policies. Less

The North Carolina State University, Division of Academic and Student Affairs, ARTS NC STATE records include correspondence, fliers, pamphlets and programs, reports, handbooks and manuals, and memoranda, primarily from the files of Alex Miller, Vice Provost and Director. Many of the materials pertain to the promotion of arts programming at NC State University, the renovation of Thompson Theater, and the creation of the Gregg Museum of Art & Design. Also included are correspondence, minutes, reports, and other materials from the Student Centers Board of Directors. Materials range in date from 1962 to 2020. Materials range in date from 1980 to 2011. Some of these records, such as ones pertaining to the "Leadership Development Series," pre-date the founding of C-SLEPS but were later incorporated into the Center. Materials range in date from 1980 to 2011. The Center for Student Leadership, Ethics and Public Service was created in 1998, beginning with just a few programs. It aims to create the next generation of leaders through unique learning opportunities that embody the value of service, responsible citizenship, and ethics. The Center offers workshops, seminars, conferences, speakers, and other events throughout the academic year including the Leadership Development Program, the Leadershape Institute, and Alternative Spring Break.
