Shout-outs to Staff

The following are Libraries staff who have received a shout-out from one or more of their colleagues for going out of their way to be extra awesome at their job.

As we've organized the inaugural edition of a new large event, Oliver has been absolutely essential to our team. Whether it's walking us through the finer points of sponsorship and invoicing, organizing prize payments for our student winners, or dealing with the intricacies of international shipping and duties- Oliver has been the man to walk us through it all. We appreciate Oliver and his Finance & Business colleagues so much!

Requests for incorporating AI tools into course-based instruction have increased this semester. As someone less familiar with these tools, it can be intimidating to try and figure out the landscape. Tyler, Jenny, and Kristy have been a huge asset with their willingness to let us shadow their classes where they teach AI tools for subject-specific sessions. I appreciate their generosity in communicating about sessions where we can lurk!

Thanks to Kristen for being such a big help during a recent visit from UGA Libraries. She reserved parking, provided our guests with maps and directions, and handled the set up and clean up for lunch. Whenever questions came up, she answered quickly and thoroughly. Kristen is always great to work with and this event was no different. Thanks so much, Kristen!

Khaled responds to requests quickly and helpfully. He follows up. He offers good solutions. All that and he's a pleasure to work with!

Huge shout out to Darren and Robin for their outstanding help when the department used a section of Duke Energy Hall for training day for our new Data Science Consultants. It was the first time that we had worked with them to host something in DEH and it was absolutely fantastic! Everything was set up perfectly and their help throughout the day meant the DSS was able to focus on the training. We are so grateful for everything, we are thrilled that you joined the Libraries and can’t wait to work with you again!

Huge shout out Kristen Rivers for all of her help making the two-day training for the Data Science Consultants absolutely amazing! Kristen’s attention to the details and flair for making things feel festive really made our new student employees feel welcome and special. And all the students raved about the food, as usual! Thanks so much for making it fun, Kristen!

The famous line, "Eric's got it" is usually in reference to how quick Eric is to pick up a ringing phone at Ask Us, but he is equally quick at picking up desk or chat hours for colleagues who need the coverage to attend another meeting or be out on leave. While covering a staffing schedule that spans seven days and often 24 hours can feel in near-constant flux, Eric's willingness to quietly and graciously tag in, tames the chaos and keeps it running smoothly.

Many NC State researchers face expensive article processing charges (APCs) in order to publish their work open access in journals. These costs can be thousands of dollars. Where possible, the Libraries negotiates agreements with key publishers that allow NC State authors to have these APCs covered as part of our subscriptions and agreements with them. This highly valuable work is led by Bertha, Silvia, and Danica. They do an outstanding job with negotiating and managing the OA agreements and, especially, with helping researchers get the information they need to take advantage of this service. Routinely faculty express thanks for the quick and thorough support Bertha, Silvia, and Danica offer. Even when having to convey less than good news, each member of the team does an excellent job with communicating clearly and effectively with researchers. Bertha, Danica, and Silvia, thanks for all the thoughtful and collaborative work you do to support researchers and OA publishing!

The entire OLE team has worked incredibly hard to make things as easy as possible for everyone transitioning to Hunt for the summer. Tripsaver had to move our entire operation over to Hunt, and the OLE team has made the move completely seamless for us, from setting up workstations with easy access to the mailroom, to transiting hundreds of holds between libraries, to checking the bookdrop at Hill daily, the OLE team has met every need and offered solutions to every challenge.

Moving Tripsaver's operations to Hunt was smooth, organized, and painless thanks to their hard work. Thank you!

It can be a challenge for patrons to find materials not available in our Libraries, but the Interlibrary Services team does a fantastic job to make the process as seamless as possible. They take extra time to help patrons find the resource they are looking for, patiently explain lending policies from other libraries, and aim to acquire items for our Libraries so patrons can have the best access possible. We are lucky to have an ILL team who values generous access and puts so much care into each and every ILL request!
