The Golden Chain Honor Society was formed in 1926, and 12 senior students were selected to be the first members of the "golden chain" of exceptional NC State students. Thereafter, up to 12 rising seniors were selected in the spring of their junior year to form the next "links" in the "golden chain," and were recognized at a "tapping" ceremony at the end of their junior year.
