The records of North Carolina State University chapter of Gamma Sigma Delta include nominations, awards, notices and memoranda, correspondence, membership lists and directories, and financial information, as well as brochures, event programs, organization newsletters, and files on the organization compiled by Dr. J. L. Etchells of the Food Science Department.
Gamma Sigma Delta began in 1905 as a professional agricultural fraternity called Delta Theta Sigma. The name was officially changed in 1913, and in 1915, the organization merged with the Honor Society of Agriculture. Members of the international organization petitioned for recognition of a campus chapter at North Carolina State College (later North Carolina State University) in 1954, which was approved in 1955. After a slow start, the organization grew rapidly and undertook a variety of activities, including honoring achievements of students and faculty, meeting with freshmen during orientation, sponsoring a tutoring program, and participating in the Biennial Conclave. NC State's chapter of Gamma Sigma Delta remains active as of 2008.
