Shout-outs to Staff
The following are Libraries staff who have received a shout-out from one or more of their colleagues for going out of their way to be extra awesome at their job.
Alison Edwards
Alison, along with Kerri Brown Parker from DELTA, recently explored a new feature of Academic Video Online, one of the Libraries' largest streaming film collections. AVON partnered with PlayPosit, a tool that helps faculty create interactive moments during a film such as discussion prompts, polls, and open-ended questions. Alison & Kerri met with the AVON team to discuss implementing the new feature and reached out to campus groups so instrutors can learn strategies to integrate AVON and PlayPosit in their courses. I really appreciate Alison's efforts to not only highlight our collections to faculty, but also think creatively about how they can enrich learning experiences for students.

Ian Boyd
Ian was instrumental in helping with a major project in the Visualization Gallery, and in general with exploring the potential of Touch Designer in that unusual space. Ian's willingness to explore an odd piece of software in an even stranger room, his enthusiasm for doing so, and his ability to teach others how to use it, was incredibly helpful and will continue to pay dividends to other users in the future. I'm so grateful to Ian for being there for our students and helping out with projects in the Gallery!

Colin Keenan
The Visualization Gallery has become a hub for incredible research, instruction, and exploration, and this has been in large part to the work of Colin Keenan. He has brought expertise, skill, and enthusiasm to the space and helped explore and pursue amazing projects. His work with the Susan Ellen Everett interns produced remarkable results which will have a positive impact for many others in the space, and I've come to rely on his expertise and curiosity for so many other projects. Even beyond the Gallery, I'm grateful to Colin's willingness to help out with strange new projects and his enthusiasm for tackling new challenges.

Karen Ciccone, Danica Lewis
My sincere thanks to Danica and Karen who are two of the best collaborators! They worked with me to take a simple idea to set up a table on Citizen Science at NC State for the State of Sciences take-over event at Hunt Library and made it dynamic and fun for everyone who stopped by. Thanks to Danica and Karen, we had all kinds of citizen science tech lending on display for visitors to use (microscope, light sensors, sound sensors, macro lenses, and a rain gauge). Thanks to them, we had popular women in STEM and Citizen Science buttons, project idea handouts, and a super cool trail camera to raffle off. We even got to collaborate with 2 students from the Citizen Science Club!
It was so much fun to meet all of the kids, families, students, faculty, and alumni who stopped by our table. It's always a good day when we have a chance to showcase how the Libraries integrates with teaching, research, and community engagement and it was made even better by being able to work with Danica and Karen.

Kristy Borda, Hillary Fox, Shaun Bennett, Emily Cox
I would like to give a big shout out to Emily, Shaun, Kristy, and Hillary F. for their work to create and deliver presentations for our soft launch of a publishing workshop series for NC State! They presented fantastic, relevant, and timely content and they brought their experience, expertise, and energy to make the workshops fun and engaging. They helped to create the foundation of a series of workshops on publishing for the NC State community that will carry on into the future.

Silvia Sheffield, Bertha Chang, Cole Richard
A big Shout Out to Bertha, Silvia, and Cole for working with me to conduct a soft launch of our publishing workshop series for NC State! What started as an idea 2 years ago was realized over the last 2 weeks. Silvia, Bertha, and Cole were the dream team to work with - from brainstorming the when, where, how, who, what, and why at the early states, to setting everything up in REPORTER, to generating outreach to all corners of campus, to configuring all of the intricate features of Zoom, securing and facilitating colleagues to be instructors for the workshops, and doing the workshop wrap-up and assessment. I'm grateful to get to work with them every day!

Hilary Davis
I've lost count of how many times over the years I've found myself thanking Hilary for helping me learn to navigate the Libraries and NC State. Hilary is a natural mentor and is always willing to give her time and energy to support and advance her colleagues. Most recently, Hilary shared tips and resources that she's created as a supervisor that help her ensure new employees receive a consistent and welcoming experience when joining her department. I'm so grateful that she was willing to share the results of that hard work with me and others so we can mirror her example in our units. Thanks to Hilary for being such a collaborative and helpful colleague-- it surely doesn't go unnoticed!

Adebola Fabiku
I consider myself very lucky to work with Adebola. From our first meeting in April 2021 to the present, Adebola has been a colleague who has positively impacted me and the way me and my team in C&RS think about our services, our collections, and how we communicate across the organization. She surfaces work that needs a new process, she brings incredibly valuable experience to complex questions and problems, and she makes us rethink how and why we we acquire and deliver collections the way we do. Plus she's a really kind human being who makes the tough days a little easier. I'm grateful for the opportunity to work with and learn from Adebola.

Cole Richard
Anyone who has hosted a Zoom-based workshop or large group meeting knows how much work goes into setting up every little detail. I'd like to thank Cole for diving in as my co-facilitator for the Spring Academic Library Representatives meeting on March 28. He brought his own experience and perspective to plan for the logistics for how participants can get the most out of the experience, he handled the work of capturing highlights, comments, and Q&A during the session, and he cleared up all of the details afterwards like video editing, and linking important info together for sharing with the group. This was Cole's first experience co-facilitating this large group meeting and he did so with a level-head and confidence while keeping an eye focused on what impact these details would have on the participants and the presenters. I'm grateful to Cole for helping to showcase the Libraries as a partner to NC State's academic enterprise in this way.

Jeff Essic
Jeff went the extra mile to help a student with a particular version of ArcGIS in the Data Experience Lab the other day and it reminded me once again how lucky we are to have him at the Libraries. I appreciate how Jeff works to solve student problems by figuring out what students need and making things happen quickly. He navigates the complexity of all aspects of data, advanced software, and hardware in a way that makes it look easy (when it is not). Jeff is awesome!
