The University Archives is the primary collection that the NC State University Libraries holds in order to document university history, but it is supplemented with other collections donated by alumni and faculty.
The University Archives contains the university's legal, administrative, and historical records of enduring value. The Archives consists of primary source material created or collected by university offices throughout the history of the university, from the late 1800s to the present. Also included are records documenting the development of NC Cooperative Extension, the NC Agricultural Research Service, and other university units that directly engage with North Carolina's citizens.
The Special Collections Research Center also collects materials about student activities, participation, and leadership, including documentation of NC State's Student Government, Greek life, and student organizations.
Finally, Special Collections holds collections of papers, photographs, artifacts, oral history interviews, and other materials donated and contributed by students, alumni, faculty, and administrators.
