Here’s how the Libraries can support your instruction this spring!

Libraries course-based instruction programs work directly with your students to build specific skills

As faculty turn their attention to their spring semester syllabi and logistics, the Libraries would like to remind instructors that we offer a robust teaching program to integrate into your instruction as-needed. Librarians are available to work with your students in an instructional setting as they build their research competency, data literacy, media creation skills, and more.

Request an instruction session to begin the planning process for one of our variety of instructional programs listed below.

Discipline-specific research instruction
Subject librarians can provide discipline-specific research instruction tailored to your course content and/or assignment, including but not limited to: citation management, literature searching/reviews, and research methods and strategy. You can request this instruction using our instruction request form or by contacting your subject librarian.

Research instruction for writing and speaking programs
The Libraries offers information literacy instruction sessions specifically designed for novice researchers in introductory writing and speaking courses (i.e., ENG 101, COM 110). Read more about lesson plans and scheduling for Writing and Speaking Instruction.

Data and visualization
Do you or your students need help finding data, creating charts, analyzing data, or making maps? Data and visualization librarians provide instruction sessions on visualization design principles and introductory use of data analysis and visualization tools, including Excel, Tableau, Python and more. Read more about our Data & Visualization Instruction Support.

Special Collections Research Center
Librarians in our Special Collections Research Center will work with you to design an interactive class session or assignment integrating archival materials, oral histories, rare books, and other original materials from our collections. To learn more about how a librarian can support your teaching using primary sources, critical archival literacy, historical research, or an introduction to your discipline, visit Teaching With Special Collections.

Makerspace and VR Studio
Our Makerspace, VR Studio, and staff are ready to enhance your class with alternative assignments and outputs: 3D prints, low fidelity prototypes, or VR experiences. No matter the discipline, level of expertise, technical or creative focus, we offer our knowledge and experience to help you integrate hands-on learning in your courses, in-person or online. Learn more about makerspace and virtual reality instruction or email us at hill_makerspace@ncsu.edu.

Innovation Studio
The Innovation Studio is a new exhibit space and instruction program for the Libraries that focuses on teaching methods of innovation to the campus community as well as showcasing the innovative work of NC State’s students and faculty. Our approach is to challenge students to think critically about innovation, and we use tools from the interdisciplinary field of futures thinking to inspire students’ creativity.
