The Friends of the Libraries is a philanthropic organization dedicated to enhancing the experiences our extraordinary libraries offer to NC State students, faculty and staff, and the public.

- Individual Membership Levels
NC State student Free NC State recent grad $15/year NC State alumni/faculty $50/year Community member $125/year Membership benefits include:
- Library borrowing privileges (by purchasing $50 borrower's permit with your annual membership)
- Early access registration to premium programs, author events, and exclusive FOL events
- Publications highlighting Libraries news including the FOCUS magazine
- Monthly e-newsletter featuring free programming for FOL members
- Family Membership Levels
NC State alumni/faculty/staff $75/year Community members $150/year Membership benefits include all individual membership benefits for two adults living at the same address and any children 18 and under, plus invitations to family-oriented events.
- Leadership Membership Levels
Leadership membership benefits include all individual membership benefits, plus the unique opportunity to provide additional philanthropic support to the NC State University Libraries community.
Young Alumni Sustaining: $250/year
- Available to NC State University alumni who graduate within 10 years (undergraduate degree) or 5 years (graduate degree) of joining
- Sponsor a digital bookplate within our collections
Sustaining: $500/year
- Available to NC State University and broader community members
- Sponsor a digital bookplate within our collections
Director's Circle: $1,000/year
- Includes recognition through NC State University's Chancellor's Circle, with invitation to University-wide events
- Sponsor a digital bookplate within our collections
Scholars Level: $2,500/year
- Includes recognition through NC State University's Chancellor's Circle, with invitation to University-wide events
- A portion of this membership directly benefits our textbook and technology lending programs
Life Member: $5,000
- Available to donors who make a one-time gift of $5,000 or cumulative gifts of $10,000 over 3 years
- Includes membership in the Friends of the Libraries, including the Individual membership benefits listed above, for the donor's lifetime
- Includes early access to information on unique Libraries programming and events

Frequently Asked Questions
- How can I check out materials from the NC State University Libraries as an FOL member?
Contact the FOL office (libraries_friends@ncsu.edu) to join/renew your membership, and to purchase a borrower's permit (one-time $50 charge). Your borrower's permit, also sometimes called an 811 card, will allow you to check out books and materials from the Libraries.
The Borrowing Guide contains a full list of borrowing privileges and loan periods for FOL members.
- Can I access databases and journals as an FOL member?
FOL members have access to some, but not all, of our online journal and database subscriptions. Contact the FOL office (libraries_friends@ncsu.edu) to set up a 72-hour trial, during which you can check to see exactly which journals and databases allow access using your borrower's permit/811 card.
- How do I renew my FOL membership?
You can join or renew the Friends of the Libraries any time using our secure online portal.
