In 2012, North Carolina State University students voted in Robert Andrew “Andy” Walsh as their ninety-fourth student body president. He served in the position from 2012 to 2013. Previously he served in the Student Senate. Walsh graduated from NC State in 2013. Jackie Gonzalez was the first Latinx student body president at NC State University. She served in the position during the 2017 to 2018 year. Previous positions she held within Student Government included chair of the University Relations Committee and vice chair of the Government Relations and Oversight Committee. She has been donor development chair for the Krispy Kreme Challenge, chair of the Student Media Board of Directors, CHASS ambassador, and at-large member of the Student Center Board of Directors. The Kanton T. Reynolds Papers contain name tags and business cards from student government, a Technician newspaper, photographs from Reynolds' time as student government Chief Justice, and student government projects and papers. Subjects include preventing destructive student celebrations, NC State University basketball, and student government goals. Also included in this collection are a few items from Tasha Youngblood, Student Body Treasurer. Materials range from 1992 to 1995 with several undated items. Kanton T. Reynolds graduated from North Carolina State University in 1995 with a B.S. in Industrial Engineering. As a student, he ran unopposed and won the position of Chief Justice for student government in the 1994 election. He was a member of the National Society of Black Engineers and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. Reynolds went on to earn a Masters of Industrial Engineering and Business Administration in 1997 and 2005. He then received his Ph.D. from North Carolina A&T University in 2014. After spending twenty years in the corporate realm, Dr. Reynolds came back to NC State University as the Director of Undergraduate Programs for the Edward P. Fitts Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering in 2017. Less

The North Carolina State University, Caldwell Fellows Program Records contain annual reports, a newsletter, yearbooks highlighting the fellows, archvied web content, and a book of letters honoring Dr. Gerald Hawkins. Materials range in date from 1993 to 2025. In 1968, the NC State Fellows Program began, funded by a grant from the Smith Richardson Foundation. When grant funding ended, the Alumni Association and the Division of Student Affairs provided support for the program to continue. In 1978, the program became the Caldwell Scholars Program, named for John Tyler Caldwell who was chancellor from 1959 to 1975. In 1990, it was renamed the Caldwell Fellows Program. Students selected for the Caldwell Fellows Program are encouraged to learn and grow, think big, cultivate leadership qualities, and collaborate with alumni, faculty, and community partners. This is accomplished by attending summer programs, honors courses, leadership programs, and internships. The North Carolina State University, Division of Academic and Student Affairs, Center for Student Leadership, Ethics and Public Service Records contain the Center's electronic newsletter, pamphlets and flyers, informational booklets, photographs of trips, and videotapes of different events. The North Carolina State University, Division of Academic and Student Affairs, Student Leadership and Engagement Records contain six portraits of Role Model Leader Award honorees. The Role Model Leaders Forum is an annual event held by the Center for Student Leadership, Ethics, and Public Service (C-SLEPS) to honor moral leaders. The records also include materials about the Build-a-Block project, a collaboration between Habitat for Humanity of Wake County and NC State. The portraits range in date from 1987 to 1992, while the Build-a-Block materials date from 2016 to 2017. It also includes the official website of the Engineers' Council, beginning in 2020. Materials range in date from 1926 to 2020. The purpose of the Engineers' Council was to provide a unified student voice within the School of Engineering, while also promoting the study and practice of the various disciplines in engineering. While the records of the Engineers' Council do not indicate gaps in the Councils' activity, the Council may have disbanded at some point and reformed in 1987, according to their website in 2008. The records of the Golden Chain Honor Society include their constitution, meeting minutes, member and recepient rosters, correspondence, financial information, induction banquet programs, yearbooks, and other general information about the society. The Golden Chain Honor Society was begun after a student wrote an article in the Technician, proposing the idea of forming an honor society exclusive to NC State which would recognize several seniors who had excelled academically as students during their time at the university, but who had also demonstrated leadership and service to the university and in the community. The Golden Chain Honor Society was formed in 1926, and 12 senior students were selected to be the first members of the "golden chain" of exceptional NC State students. Thereafter, up to 12 rising seniors were selected in the spring of their junior year to form the next "links" in the "golden chain," and were recognized at a "tapping" ceremony at the end of their junior year. The Golden Chain Honor Society remained active as of 2008, at that time having just shy of 900 members ("links") in the Chain. Less

The North Carolina State University Humanities and Social Sciences Council (originally the Liberal Arts Council, changing its name when the School of Liberal Arts became the College of Humanities and Social Sciences in 1977) was established in or before 1966 to act as a representative student organization for the various departments in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. The records of the North Carolina State University Physical and Mathematical Sciences Council (PAMS Council) include their constitution and by-laws, correspondence, meeting minutes, financial information, membership rosters, files on interactions with other student organizations, and other general information about the PAMS Council and their activities. The North Carolina State University Phyical and Mathematical Sciences Council (PAMS Council) was established in or before 1961 to act as a representative student organization for students enrolled in the the several different departments within the College of Physical and Mathematical Sciences. The Council was originally known as the Science Council, changing its name to the PSAM Council (Physical Science and Applied Mathematics Council) when the college adopted that same name; and then again changing their name to the current PAMS Council, following another renaming of the College. The PAMS Council acts as a bridge between students and faculty in PAMS, as well as a liason between the College and the many other student organizations associated with the College (including the student chapters and branches of many national organizations). The PAMS Council remained active as of 2008. Less

The Student Government records contain meeting minutes, agenda, correspondence, news releases, publications, and financial records generated as a result of the establishment and activities of Student Government on NC State University's campus. Of particular interest are documents describing the "Student Rebellion" of 1905 which facilitated the need for student governing on campus as well as records documenting the ratification of the Constitution in 1955 and the creation of the Student Senate in 1969. There are also records concerning campus elections, political rallies and community involvement as well as student "disturbances" on and off campus. In addition, the collection contains publications of student government laws, bound copies of annual records and community service type publications which were circulated among the entire student body. The records also contain digital media related to the Student Government website, as well as archived content of the official website itself, beginning in 2017. Student Government at North Carolina State College of Agriculture and Engineering (later North Carolina State University) began in 1921. At that time, the group was made up of both students and faculty and was called Campus Government. Following the establishment of the Faculty Senate in 1954, a new Student Government Constitution was ratified in 1955, reestablishing a separate Student Government which included a student body president and governing committees. The Student Senate came into being in 1969 with the ratification of the Student Body Constitution. Less

The records of the Tompkins Textile Student Council at North Carolina State University contain correspondence, meeting minutes, and other general information on the Council, its members, and its activities. Records also include a scrapbook maintained by the Council from 1978 to 1984. The Council is student-run, and acts as the chief governing body over all other student clubs and organizations within the College of Textiles, as well as providing a liaison between student interests and the interests of the College. The Tompkins Textile Student Council (formerly known as the Tompkins Textile Council) was established in the School of Textiles (later, College of Textiles) at North Carolina State in or before 1940. Membership is open to any student enrolled in the College, and the Tompkins Textil Student Council remained active as of 2008. Less

The Student Leaders Oral Histories contains digital audio and video recordings of interviews conducted with former NC State student leaders as part of the Student Leadership Initiative. This multi-year program has chronicled the experiences and impact of former student leaders through the collection of video oral histories, biographical essays and digitized images. The 2010 Cathy Sterling interviews contain audio only, while the remainder of the interviews also include video. Interviews were conducted by Genya O'Gara, Jonathan Holloway, Samantha Rich, Kelly Murray , and Todd Kosmerick beginning in 2010. Contains oral histories gathered as part of the Student Leadership Initiative, a project undertaken by the Special Collections Research Center to chronicle the experiences and impact of former North Carolina State University students.
