This collection contains correspondence, newspaper clippings, songs, stickers, financial records, and other internal documents, 1969 to 1980, of the Citizens for Ramsey Clark organization. These materials focus on the activities of the organization and the political life of Ramsey Clark. Most of the items relate to the efforts of the Citizens for Ramsey Clark to obtain a 1972 Presidential nomination from the Democratic Party for Clark. A sample of Ramsey Clark's writing is also included. The Citizens for Ramsey Clark organization existed from 1970 to 1980. The organization's membership included primarily politically liberal North Carolina State University faculty members. When the group formed in January of 1970 in Raleigh, North Carolina, its primary goal was to help Clark receive the 1972 Democratic Party nomination for President. The members of the group met weekly at the NC State University's Faculty Club on Thursday nights for dinner. Less

This collection contains reports and periodicals regarding the city of Kannapolis and the North Carolina Research Campus. The reports, primarily issued by or for the city of Kannapolis, date from 2006-2007. The magazines, issued by the city of Kannapolis, date from 2007-2011. Kannapolis, North Carolina, originated as a textile mill town in 1906 when J.W. Cannon purhcased farmland between Salisbury and Charlotte, North Carolina. In 1908 the first mill at Kannapolis opened. Kannapolis officially incorporated in 1984. The mills went through several owners including the Cannon family, the Pacific Holding Company, Fieldcrest Mills, and its final owner the Pillowtex corporation. After the mills closed their doors for the final time in 2003, government officials and city planners in Kannapolis initiated a process to redefine the mill town as a biotechnology hub through the development of the North Carolina Research Campus. The Claire Necker Papers contain notes, drafts, compilations of images, clippings, artifacts, and publications relating to Necker's research interests on cats. The writings and illustrations in the collection includes notes and drafts as well as illustrations Necker compiled during research for publications. There are numerous notebooks listing publications. Additionally, there is artwork and artifacts relating to cats or other animals. The correspondence series is fairly short with mostly letters to Necker. A portion of the correspondence is with Guy Bogart, who traded lengthy typed letters with Necker and two other correspondents. Much of the material is undated, but likely dates from the 1960s-1980s with some clippings dating from the late 19th or early 20th century, or earlier. Claire Kral Necker was born Claire Kral Nemec on 16 October 1917. In 1939 she married Walter L. Necker, who was then completing a BS in zoology at the University of Chicago. She and Walter shared interests in science and bibliography. Walter worked with a variety of organizations as, at various times, scientist, librarian, curator and rare books cataloger. Claire earned Master's degrees in Zoology and Chemistry (when and where is not documented, though it was sometime before 1968), and after World War II she and Walter started Aardvark Books, a mail-order antiquarian book business. Claire and Walter divorced in 1968, and she found work at a local library. Claire had for some time pursued a career as a free-lance writer, but in 1969 she published her first book, Cats and Dogs (A. S. Barnes). Necker's other works include The Natural History of Cats (Delta, 1970), Supernatural Cats; An Anthology (Doubleday, 1972), Four Centuries of Cat Books (Scarecrow Press, 1972), and The Cat's Got Our Tongue (Scarecrow Press, 1973). She died 19 March 2010 in Pawling, New York. Less

The Clarence Hamilton Poe pamphlet contains Christmas wishes and an essay entitled A Call to All Who Love the South, in which he addresses southern culture and race relations. Clarence Hamilton Poe (1881 - 1964) became the editor of The Progressive Farmer in 1899 and formed the Progressive Farmer Company in 1903. He served as both president and editor of the company from 1903 until 1953, and retired as president in 1954. He then became the chairman of the board of directors and senior editor. Poe advocated better agriculture, health, and education for the people of North Carolina and the South. He was the Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees at North Carolina State College from 1920 to 1931, and a member of the Consolidated University of North Carolina Board of Trustees from 1931 to 1955. He received honorary degrees from several schools, including North Carolina State College (now North Carolina State University) and the University of North Carolina. Less

The Clyde F. Smith Papers contain literature, reprints, articles and books primarily pertaining to the insect family Aphididae, of the Order Homoptera. Two books, Bibliography of the Aphididae of the World (1972) and An Annotated List of Aphididae (Homoptera) of North America (1978) are indexes of the papers. Research materials consist of literature by noted authors from around the world who study aphids, their life cycles, reproduction variables, climate conditions, host plants and biological and chemical control. This collection is an extension of the Zeno Metcalf Collection. Also included are index cards on various Aphididae, which include an annotated generic and specific index to all literature cited in Smith's 1972 Bibliography of the Aphididae of the World, a host plant index indicating the aphids associated with each host and the source citing this association, and an index of aphid-parasitoids associations. Clyde F. Smith joined the faculty of the North Carolina State College Entomology Department in September 1939. He served as Head of N.C. State's Entomology Department from 1950 to 1964. Smith received his B.S. and M.S. degrees from Utah State University (then Utah State Agricultural College). He received his Ph.D. from The Ohio State University in 1939. In 1972-1973, Smith served as president of the Southeastern Branch of the Entomological Society of America. Less

The Coffee Family Collection includes architectural records acquired by the Coffey family through their family association with John W. Coffey & Son, the Raleigh building contracting firm. The firm was founded by John W. Coffey. John W. Coffey, born 1869, founded John W. Coffey and Son, a construction firm that rose to prominence in Raleigh, NC. He started in the building trade in 1899, when he formed a business partnership with George C. Bonniwell. The partnership ended in 1900 as Bonniwell chose to move elsewhere and he decided to start his own firm. John W. Coffey and Son found success building up the suburbs to the north and west of Raleigh as well as partaking in many commercial projects across the eastern part of the state. This collection of World War II rationing ephemera contains ration books, coupons, stickers, permits, and certificates for tires, bicycles, cars, stoves, typewriters, sugar, shoes, fuel oil, gasoline, and food which were issued by the Office of Price Administration between 1942 and 1946. There is also a pamphlet, "Rationing in World War II," issued by the Office of Price Administration (OPA) in 1946 and sent to libraries and historical societies along with "one of the limited number of historical sets of OPA ration currency...assembled in response to requests from libraries, historical societies and similar institutions." The Office of Price Administration (OPA) rationed scarce essential commodities and authorized subsidies for production of some of those commodities during World War II. It also stabilized prices and rents by establishing maximum prices for commodities (except agricultural commodities controlled by the Secretary of Agriculture) and maximum rents in defense areas. The Office of Price Administration was established in the Office for Emergency Management (OEM), by EO 8875, August 28, 1941. It was transferred to independent agency status by the Emergency Price Control Act (56 Stat. 23), January 30, 1942; and to the newly-established Office of Temporary Controls (OTC) by EO 9809, December 12, 1946, except Financial Reporting Division was transferred to the Federal Trade Commission. It was abolished effective May 29, 1947, by General Liquidation Order, OTC Administrator, March 14, 1947.
