About This Event



The Raspberry Pi is a revolutionary computing platform: a radically affordable single-board computer designed to enable people of all ages to explore computing and learn programming. Because of its low cost ($5-$35) and open, flexible hardware, it has been embraced by a global community of DIY enthusiasts, educators, researchers, hackers, and other makers. Many people use the Pi for electronics and Internet of Things projects that connect to the web over ethernet or WiFi.

This presentation and hands-on demo will showcase the Raspberry Pi and the possibilities it enables. Warren Jasper, Professor and Director of the Textile Engineering Program, will show multiple projects he has built with the Raspberry Pi, while giving attendees advice on starting a project and connecting it to the NCSU network. He'll also discuss teaching with the Raspberry Pi, and the advantages it offers instructors and students in learning to program and build connected devices.

This will also be a chance to learn more about the NCSU Libraries' Makerspace resources, which include Raspberry Pi kits available through our Technology Lending service. We have loaned Pi's since 2013, and are currently upgrading and adding to our set of kits.
