Add your voice to the historical record of NC State by making a 10-minute video or audio recording.

How to record your story

Sharing your Wolf Tale recording with us is easy!

  1. Find a quiet, comfortable space for recording. We recommend natural daylight for video and using headphones with a built-in microphone.
  2. Use a video recording app on a smartphone, tablet, computer, or other preferred device.
    1. Smartphones and tablets: You can use your device's built-in camera to record video. 
    2. Desktop and laptop computers: Windows computers have the built-in Camera app for video recording. Apple computers have Photo Booth for video. You can also record video using Zoom on Windows and Mac.
  3. Record your story using our prompts above. Share what you feel is most important about your experience at NC State. Your recording can be up to 10 minutes in length, though shorter stories are also fine!
    1. If you're recording a video on a smartphone or tablet, use landscape orientation.
    2. You can record your story in any language, not just in English.
  4. Save your video file. We accept .mov and .mp4 video file formats.
  5. Submit your recording. Fill out our form, and we'll send you a link to upload your video.

FAQs

  • Why should I record and submit my Wolf Tale?

    You are an important part of NC State's history! Sharing your Wolf Tale will add your voice to NC State's historical record to teach future generations about the diverse experiences of our campus community. Accepted Wolf Tales are housed in the official university archives at the NC State University Libraries Special Collections Research Center, and are preserved and shared with the public to create a more complete, inclusive picture of NC State's history.

  • Can I record with my friend, family member, etc.?

    Yes! You’re welcomed to have up to two additional people (3 people total) during your recording session. You can interview each other or have a natural conversation together.

  • Does everything get accepted?

    Great question. Not every submission will be accepted. There is a review process of all submission materials by staff members to see if the topics fit within our collecting scope. We will notify everyone regarding the status of their submission.

  • I’m having problems uploading my media file.

    Please contact the Wolf Tales team at library_wolftales@ncsu.edu and we will try to help troubleshoot any issues or find an alternative solution for you to submit your digital file to Wolf Tales.

  • Can I change my mind after I submit to Wolf Tales?

    Absolutely! Whether it’s the next week or a few years from the point of submission, if you want us to take it down from the internet, let us know. You can always contact us at library_wolftales@ncsu.edu to let us know.

  • Can my published Wolf Tale be archived without public access while I'm job searching?

    Yes! You determine when and how users can access your recording. If you want us to wait a year or so for public access, we can do that. If you have any questions or concerns you can always contact us at library_wolftales@ncsu.edu

  • What do I talk about?

    You can talk about anything you want that relates to your experience at NC State! We also have a list of prompts above if that will help generate some ideas or guide your conversation.

  • How will my recording be used?

    Your recording will be published online and available to the public for research, education, and other non-commercial uses. We will also create a transcription and may use images created from your video in printed and digital materials. Read the terms and conditions
