About This Event

John Bracken, Vice President of the Knight Foundation’s Media Innovation Program, is the 2016 NCSU Libraries I.T. Littleton Seminar speaker.

In his talk, "Locating desert springs in our communities: libraries, innovation and philanthropy," Bracken will share lessons from 20 years of leveraging technology for stronger communities, and insights from the Knight News Challenge on libraries.  Bracken will deliver the talk on Wednesday, June 1 at 2:00 p.m. in the James B. Hunt Jr. Library Auditorium.

A reception in Duke Energy Hall C&D will follow his presentation.

The Media Innovation Program with the Knight Foundation funds projects that improve the creation, sharing, and use of information essential to communities. Bracken also oversees the Knight News Challenge and Knight's Prototype Fund, as well as the foundation's other journalism and technology investments. He has led the foundation to invest in digital literacy, broadband access, and investigative reporting. Bracken, involved in the Knight News Challenge in 2014, sought to address the question, “How might we leverage libraries as a platform to build more knowledgeable communities?” He is again involved in this year’s Knight News Challenge, which will explore how libraries can serve 21st-century information needs.

The I.T. Littleton Seminar is presented by the NCSU Librarians' Association. The annual event, funded by an endowment established in 1987 to explore key issues in the development of academic libraries and to honor former library director I.T. Littleton, is free and open to the public.
