Frequently asked questions about the Course Ready program
What is the Course Ready program?
Course Ready, managed by Wolfpack Outfitters, is NC State’s undergraduate textbook billing program. The program provides access to digital versions of required materials in Moodle. In Fall2026/Spring 2027 the cost of the program is:
- $279 per semester (plus sales tax) for all students
All undergraduate students are automatically enrolled. The opt-out window for Course Ready for Fall 2026 ends on August 28, 2026. If you do not wish to be enrolled into the program, you will need to opt out again each semester.
Although the Libraries does not manage CourseReady, we can offer the following guidance to decide whether the program is right for you.
How do I decide if the program is right for me?
Here are a few points to consider when deciding whether to opt out of Course Ready or remain in the program:
- Convenience: Many of your required materials will be available electronically through Moodle at the start of classes.
- Cost savings: Depending on the cost of required textbooks if purchased separately, this program may or may not be cost-effective for you. This program does not cover art supplies or laboratory equipment.
- Required course materials: If your courses do not have required textbooks or other course materials (for example, all readings are shared in Moodle or in the Libraries' course reserves), this program may not be cost-effective for you.
- Textbook format: Course Ready textbooks will be provided digitally whenever possible. Physical copies will need to be purchased separately. If you prefer print books, Course Ready may not be a good fit. If your preference is print, you may have to buy your items through a different retailer.
- Course level: Course Ready does not currently provide access to graduate or dual-enrollment undergraduate/graduate courses. You will have to purchase materials for these courses even if you are enrolled in Course Ready. (Access to graduate-level materials may be available via Course Ready in the future.)
- Access: Access to materials in Course Ready is time-limited. If you want to keep long-term access to your textbooks, Course Ready might not be a good option.
- Privacy: If you have questions about how your data might be used, contact courseready@ncsu.edu.
How can the Libraries help?
The Libraries continues to provide its Textbook Lending Program. Students can access some, but not all, required textbooks at the Libraries, either in print or online. Instructors can still share course materials in the Libraries' Course Reserves. If you need assistance with accessing the Libraries’ textbook offerings, please contact David Tully, Principal Librarian for Student Affordability.
How long will students be able to retain access to course materials after the course ends?
Long-term access to digital course materials you get through Course Ready depends on the publisher and the platform. Some digital textbooks can be downloaded to a device and read after the term is over. Digital textbooks that are a part of a courseware package such as McGraw-Hill Connect or Pearson MyLab are only available to you for a single semester.
How do I opt out of Course Ready?
The opt-out period for Course Ready for Spring 2026 ends on August 28, 2026. The process opting-out is:
Log into MyPack Portal. From the Student Homepage, select "Student Accounts". At the Student Accounts page, select the Course Ready Access Option in the sidebar on the left. A table at the bottom of the page lists your status with the program for the current semester. Select the Opt-Out button for the current semester to opt out of Course Ready for that semester.
If you opt out, you will need to get your textbooks, lab manuals and courseware from another source. Wolfpack Outfitters has course materials available for purchase individually for those not enrolled in Course Ready.
How do I opt back in?
If you’ve opted out and you change your mind before August 28, 2026, revisit the Course Ready Access Option in MyPack Portal. Select the button labeled Opt-In for the current semester to re-enroll in Course Ready.
After August 28, 2026, email courseready@ncsu.edu to request to opt in.
