The latest in VR game design… and what it takes to do it

The Triangle is a hotspot for gaming companies, and Michael Lepard’s Cary-based company Unlit Games is a leader in virtual reality gaming. Lepard visits to talk about “Virtual Reality in Video Games” on Wednesday, March 15, 4-5 p.m. in the D. H. Hill Jr. Library Auditorium.

Lepard will discuss the skill sets he draws on in his VR game design work, the skills he recommends for people interested in this medium to acquire, and how he sees the future of the industry.

The Libraries will also demo a not-yet-released multi-player VR game from Unlit, Redemption’s Guild, in its new VR room—D. H. Hill Jr. Library room 2317/2318.

Unlit is in the beta-testing stage with Sapphiria, a story-driven fantasy game for the HTC Vive Virtual Reality Headset. They’re offering a sneak peek at Sapphiria and the opportunity to sign up as a beta tester of the game.

The goal of Sapphiria is to bring a new level of storytelling to VR with beautiful landscapes and fully voiced-over characters. You step into the body of a young adventurer and experience a teleportation spell mishap. Suffering from amnesia, you travel through beautiful landscapes and vistas and meet a group of interesting creatures, trying to piece your memory back together.

Lepard’s appearance is part of the NCSU Libraries Presents season.
