Records relating to Libraries' compliance with federal affirmative action mandate in the 1970s. These records include the the Affirmative Action plan created by the library and the university in response to the U.S. Department of Health, Education and Welfare (H.E.W.) compliance report, which is also included in the collection. Other materials include university correspondence related to affirmative action and affirmative action committee meeting agendas and minutes. Additionally, there is supplemental material that was used to advise in the creation of an affirmative action plan, such as plans from other universities, articles, statistical and demographic information, and guidelines and laws related to affirmative action and equal employment oppurtunities. North Carolina State University filed its first Affirmative Action plan with the United States government in 1974, establishing efforts to increase female and minority student enrollment, and working on standards affecting female and minority faculty and staff at the University. This report was filed in response to a compliance review by the U.S. Department of Health, Education and Welfare (H.E.W.) on North Carolina's universities, which found that N. C. State was not in compliance with laws realted to equal employment oppurtunities. Each school and office, including D. H.
