The Douglas Sanders Slides and Papers consist of materials gathered from Dr. Sanders's office on the campus of North Carolina State University. Over half of the materials consist of 35mm color photographic slides used by Dr. Sanders in his research, teaching, and presentations. Douglas Sanders was a professor of horticultural science at North Carolina State University beginning in 1970. He received his bachelor's degree in 1965 from Michigan State University, and his master’s degree and doctorate in 1967 and 1970 respectively from the University of Minnesota. His accomplishments included the establishment of the N.C. Vegetable Growers Association, the introduction of numerous new vegetable technologies (drip irrigation, plasticulture, precision seeding), and the introduction of new crops to North Carolina, including asparagus, broccoli, sweet onions and leaf lettuce. He served in various positions of the American Society for Horticultural Science. He was named a fellow of that organization in 1992 and received its Outstanding International Horticulturist Award in 2006. Dr. Sanders died on April 17, 2006. Less

This collection contains files on Rice's teaching in the Department of Engineering at North Carolina State College (later University), as well as papers relating to his involvement with various branches of the United States Armed Forces. Types of materials include paper files, blueprints, and photographs. Robert Barton Rice was administrator, teacher, and engineering consultant. During World War II, Rice directed the Naval Diesel School, a designated North Carolina State College training facility for national defense. While teaching at North Carolina State College (later University) in 1950, Rice and two partners formed Enginerring Development Associates, a corporation offering services in design, construction, supervision, and consultation in many branches of engineering and architecture.
