This collection contains memoranda, pamphlets, menus, posters and reports relating to North Carolina State University's University Dining Services. The records document the activities of University Dining from 1972 to 1998 and are arranged in alphabetical order by subject. University Dining offers a variety of on-campus dining options. Students can choose from all-you-can eat dining halls, several fast-food chains, convenience stores, and a restaurant. University Catering, a branch of University Dining, provides specialty food service to hundreds of functions throughout the North Carolina State University campus each year. The General Faculty Meeting Records are primarily comprised of the minutes from meetings held by the President, later Chancellor, and faculty at North Carolina State University. The minutes cover all aspects of running the university, and include discussions of the curriculum, organization of the academic calendar, finances, requirements for admittance and withdrawal, scheduling for the school year, and issues between students and professors, among many other topics. Also included in the collection are general faculty bylaws and a small amount of correspondence and resolutions. Materials date from 1889 to 1980. Alexander Holladay, J.R. Chamberlain, W.F. Massey, W.A. Withers, D.H. Hill Jr., and J.H. Kinealy comprised the entire administration of the North Carolina College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts when the faculty met for the first time on Oct. 13, 1889. Alexander Quarles Holladay was the first chief executive of the (then) college. In 1889, Holladay applied to the North Carolina College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts for the position of professor of English, but the Board of Trustees appointed him as the first college president instead. President Holladay and the faculty met regularly to discuss all matters of running the college, including any issues with the student body, which was only 50 students at the time. Holladay served the institution until failing health forced his retirement in 1899. He died in Raleigh, North Carolina, in 1909. Less

The Chancellor is the chief administrative and executive officer, leader and spokesperson of North Carolina State University and reports to the President of the University of North Carolina General Administration and the Board of Governors, whose members are appointed by the North Carolina legislature. The University is governed by a 13-member North Carolina State University Board of Trustees. Contains student research reports, notes, and a speech on a variety of subjects relating to North Carolina State University history. This collection is artificial, and has been maintained by Special Collections staff. North Carolina State University was established in 1887 as the North Carolina College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts (A&M College). The College opened in 1889 with one building - the current Holladay Hall - six faculty, and courses in the agricultural and mechanical arts, adding a curriculum in applied science in 1893. By the turn of the century the College had grown to some half dozen buildings, about 300 students, and had begun to diversify its curricula. In 1917, the institution's name was changed to North Carolina State College of Agriculture and Engineering (State College). In 1931 the College greatly reworked its curricula as it underwent consolidation. Along with North Carolina College for Women and the University of North Carolina, it became a part of the Consolidated University of North Carolina,. North Carolina State is now one of the constituent institutions of the multi-campus University of North Carolina system, having received university status, and, after some controversy, assumed its current name in 1965. As of 2007, N.C. State had a student body of nearly 30,000, nearly two thousand faculty, and research and program expenditures of over $440 million. Less

University Communications and Marketing (formerly known as the North Carolina State University Office of Public Affairs) operates to help the University "accomplish its mission by building sound relationships with the university's constituencies and public groups." Public Affairs consisted of three main divisions: Communication Services, News Services, and Web Communications. It is believed that somewhere around 2013-2014 the name of the Office of Public Affiars was changed to University Communications and Marketing. Until 1994 the office was known as University Relations. The Roy Edwin Smith calendar and photographs contains a 1920 calendar containing pictures of the North Carolina State College of Agriculture and Engineering (now North Carolina State University) campus. The University Archives Photograph Collection, College of Humanities and Social Science Photographs documents the people, departments, and activities of the College. Included in the collection are photographs from the following departments: English, History, Liberal Arts, Modern Languages, Philosophy and Religion, Speech, Social Work, and Sociology. Also included are negatives of the debate team and photographs of the March of Dimes telecast. Established as a distinct college in 1963, the College of Humanities and Social Sciences represents the intellectual core of the university. As of 2009, CHASS is the second largest college at North Carolina State University, CHASS offers 60 bachelor’s programs, 15 master’s programs and 4 Ph.D programs to close to 5000 undergraduate and graduate students. William Joseph Peele (1855-1919) was a lawyer, an author, and an active participant in organizing state history agencies.
