Contained in this collection are published and unpublished research papers and articles, correspondence, notes, photographs, and other documents created or acquired by Worsham in the course of his research as well as his work with the North Carolina Agricultural Extension Service (later Cooperative Extension Service). Worsham's research focused on witchweed (striga asiatica); crop injury, especially on tobacco, from herbicide-contaminated (picloram) fertilizer; and no tillage agriculture. The North Carolina State University Entomology Department Drawings and Papers is principally a compilation of taxonomic illustrations of thousands of species of insects, 1967-1990. The illustrations are in a variety of media, mainly drawings and paintings, as well as photographs, negatives, and slides. They were produced by independent artists hired by the NC State University Entomology Department, members of the entomology faculty, and the United States Department of Agriculture. Most of the illustrations were executed for the Entomology Department in the 1970s by five primary artists. This collection also contains entomological publications, 1973-2000, primarily of the North Carolina Agricultural Extension Service (later Cooperative Extension Service), edited and authored by James R. Baker. These publications are mainly pest control manuals, as well as copies of a pest control informational serial. Also included is early professional correspondence of Baker regarding entomological publications and taxonomy, 1966-1975. Professor Emmett Brown Morrow (1896 - 1956) was born in Rowan County, North Carolina and was one of nine children. He graduated from North Carolina State College of Agriculture and Engineering (later North Carolina State University) in 1921, with a B.S. degree and earned an M.S. degree from the University of California in 1924. The Frederick Siler Sloan Papers consist of course outlines and notes on Agricultural Extension classes at North Carolina State College (later North Carolina State University) during Sloan's tenure as senior staff member of that department, 1950-1962. Frederick Siler Sloan (1907-1983) received his B.A. in Horticulture from North Carolina State College (later North Carolina State University) in 1928. He served as an agricultural official and professor at North Carolina State's Agricultural Extension Service from 1928 to 1969. These are a scrapbook compiled during Ruggles' student days at North Carolina State College (later University), which contains clippings and other items relating to academics, athletics, social events, and R.O.T.C., as well as two scrapbooks compiled when Ruggles was Director of Extension at North Carolina State, which contain items relating to the extension program and short courses. Also included is correspondence, 1927-1928, regarding Ruggles' thesis and other materials relating to his Master's degree and thesis. Edward Wolfe Ruggles (1900-1982) graduated from North Carolina State College of Agriculture and Engineering (later North Carolina State University) in 1922. He was a member of the Electrical Engineering faculty, 1926-1928. Ruggles became Assistant Director of the College's Extension Division in 1928 and Director in 1934. Dr. Harriet Stubbs earned her B.A. in biology and education and her M.S.T. in biology from the University of Wisconsin - River Falls. She earned her Ph.D. in 1982 from the University of Minnesota. Her work focused on professional development opportunities for educators as well as the information and dissemination of current research in the environmental sciences. She was the Executive Director of the Acid Rain Foundation, Inc., for fifteen years and the principal investigator for the SCI-LINK and GLOBE-NET projects at NC State University. Stubbs was a faculty member at NC State University beginning in 1988, and was recognized in 1990 as a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. She is a Charter member of the Academy of Outstanding Faculty Engaged in Extension at NC State University. This collection contains original agricultural engineering drawings of agricultural buildings that Ritchie designed for North Carolina State University. The buildings were located at the university's agricultural research farms in and around Raleigh, North Carolina. Ray M. Ritchie (1922-2004) was an agricultural engineer with twenty years of service to North Carolina Cooperative Extension. Ritchie was born in Charlotte Courthouse, Virginia, and he graduated from the Virginia Polytechnic Institute (now Virginia Tech). He worked for the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service from 1949 to 1969. Afterwards he ran a consulting business that designed farm buildings across the United States. Less

In 1917, the first dean of agriculture took office, and the School of Agriculture was established in 1923. The name was changed to School of Agriculture and Life Sciences in 1964, and finally to College of Agriculture and Life Sciences in 1987. As of 2009, the College consists of 22 academic and extension departments, and runs the North Carolina Agricultural Research Service, the current name of the former Agricultural Experiment Station. Clark Harrison Kirkman (1920-2007) worked in agricultural extension in North Carolina, as director of member relations for Farmers Cooperative Exchange (FCX) in Raleigh, North Carolina, and as a Cooperative Education Specialist with United States Department of Agriculture in Washington, D.C. Kirkman taught hundreds of workshops and training sessions on cooperatives across the United States, developed more than 55 publications of unique educational materials on cooperatives, worked with a broad network of professionals and organizations in support of cooperatives, and was instrumental in developing public/private partnerships to document the value of cooperatives in rural and community development.
