About This Event

Join us for this Making Space event with gamer and creator, Amira Virgil. Born and raised in New York, Amira Virgil (Xmiramira) has been playing video games for as long as she can remember. From a young age, Mira gravitated towards the Sims, realizing she had a natural gift at playing the game and genuinely enjoyed it. In 2015, she began streaming casually, eventually leaving her full time job to pursue gaming as a career. Frustrated with the lack of diversity in Sims, Mira created the Melanin Pack, which expanded skin tone options for Sims characters, and championed diversity within the game. Mira also developed The Black Simmer, further implementing the community aspect of the Sims. Fast forward to 2021, Xmiramira is a staple in the Sims streaming community, boasting 150,000 subscribers across streaming platforms, and winning the first season of Spark’d, a competition show with the world’s top Sims players. To date, Mira has worked with a variety of companies such as Google, MAC Cosmetics, P&G Beauty, Epic Games and Savage X Fenty, all in the hopes of continuing to advocate for diversity and create space for women gamers within the industry.

Hear Amira talk about her journey as a gamer and how it led her to being a force in the gaming and Sims community. Join as after the talk for a workshop on creating custom content for The Sims.

There will be a workshop after the talk for only NC State University students. If you are interested in participating in the workshop, please register here.
