About This Event

Join Dr. Christopher Walker as he discusses the impact of 3D visualization technologies on the discovery, anatomical analysis, and public dissemination of the largest hominin (the group including humans and our extinct relatives) fossil assemblage ever found on the African continent. Dr. Walker, an Assistant Professor of Anatomy at the NC State College of Veterinary Medicine, was a member of the first team of scientists to examine the fossils and designate a new species: Homo naledi. His research on the fossils has employed 3D surface scans, micro-CT scans, and high resolution 2D images to establish site demography, reconstruct gait, evaluate body proportions, and assess growth and development in the species.
