In this hands-on workshop, participants will work alone or in pairs or groups to write poems and create crafts and objects that express their family histories or personal stories. No prior experience required. All materials will be provided.
Centered on language as inheritance/heirlooms, the workshop is inspired by Dr. Tiya Miles’s All That She Carried, in which Miles unpacks the transferring of love and provision through ‘Ashley’s sack', the language on it, and the small items placed within it. The workshop will be led by poet and author Patricia L. Ndombe, MFA student at NC State.
Those who desire to attend are also welcome to bring items that will help them experience and create something new from the workshop - whether it be a handmade craft or an earlier writing piece.
Free and open to all NC State students, staff, and faculty. Space is limited and registration is required. Please register here.
Presented by the Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing program, with support from the NC State University Libraries.
