In the 1960s and 1970s Mexican Americans, frustrated by persistent discrimination and poverty, find a new way forward through social action and the building of a new "Chicano" identity. At the same time, activists push for better education opportunities for Latinos, the inclusion of Latino studies, and empowerment in the political process. Runtime 55 minutes. Professor Kristy Ulibarri of East Carolina University will lead apost-film discussion. This screening is a portion of the documentary film Latino Americans, supported by an NEH grant and created for PBS by the WETA public television station.
