WolfWalk is a photographic guide to the history of North Carolina State University optimized for mobile devices. The application includes a location-aware campus map and a photo viewer for browsing historical photographs by decade or theme. WolfWalk features 1000 photographs of important people, places and events in NC State history. WolfWalk is a pilot project to explore new user interaction models with digital collections on mobile devices.

How We Did It

The initial version of WolfWalk was deployed in March 2010, and works across a range of newer mobile devices. WolfWalk Mobile Web exploits the capabilities of mobile web browsers that implement the W3C Geolocation API specification to build location-aware mobile websites using open standards. Device support includes the Apple iPhone, iPod, and Android-based smartphones.

An iPhone app version of WolfWalk was released to the App Store on July 1, 2010. An iPad app version of WolfWalk was released on June 10, 2011.
