About Visiting the NCSU Libraries
We welcome visitors to the NCSU Libraries, including the James B. Hunt, Jr. Library. Please note that the primary mission of the NCSU Libraries is to support the instructional and research needs of the faculty and students of North Carolina State University. Every attempt is made to tour visitors at times least disruptive to students and faculty using the libraries for these purposes.
NO TOURING OR SIGHTSEEING is permitted during Reading Days or Finals. In the James B. Hunt, Jr. Library, access beyond the security gates will be limited to NC State students, faculty, and staff. The security gates will be closed on the following days:
- Thursday, July 31 – Friday, August 1, 2014
- Thursday, December 4 – Tuesday, December 16, 2014

K-12 Students, Camps, and Pre-College Programs
At this time, we are unable to permit group visits for K-12 students unaffiliated with North Carolina State University. Individuals under the age of 18 who are not registered NC State students must be accompanied by an adult. Adults who bring their children or minors into library facilities are responsible for monitoring their activities and regulating their behavior.
For NC State affiliated K-12 programs, a 30-minute tour to limited areas of the library may be requested from the Visitor Experience Librarian. A reservation two weeks in advance is required, please Request a Tour.
Admitted and Prospective Students
Admitted and prospective North Carolina State University students are encouraged to visit the Libraries, either as part of a tour administered by the Joyner Visitor Center or independently.
Visitor Tours of NCSU Libraries
The Visitor Experience Librarian is available to review requests for tours of any of the NCSU Libraries facilities. Our ability to arrange specialized tours for off-campus organizations is limited. A reservation in advance is required, please Request a Tour.
Because groups are distracting for students and faculty who are working in the building, we attempt to schedule group tours prior to 11:00 am.
For more information, contact us at (919) 515-0183.
For Library Practitioners
For librarians and other practitioners, we offer the "Our Library of the Future" symposium.
Tours may be cancelled in the case of inclement weather. If you have questions about a specific tour, please contact the Visitor Experience Librarian at 919-515-0183.
Note that building access to the NCSU Libraries is restricted to NC State students, faculty, and staff between 10:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m.
