Microbiology, the study of microorganisms, encompasses disciplines such as virology, immunology, bacteriology, mycology, protistology, and parasitology, as well as studying basic cellular processes. Microbiology is highly interdisciplinary, and can incorporate food safety, bioenergy, environmental processes, as well as human and animal health.
