Rescue that data!

Our intrepid data rescue librarians teach you all about web archiving and public datasets in two free workshops on Thursday, April 20. The NCSU Libraries workshops are part of Endangered Data Week, a new, collaborative effort joining campuses, nonprofits, libraries, citizen science initiatives and cultural heritage institutions.

Endangered Data Week sheds light on public datasets in danger of being deleted, repressed, mishandled or lost. Events will publicize the availability of datasets, encourage political activism for open data policies and foster of data skills through workshops on curation, documentation and discovery, improved access and preservation.

Data Rescue 101
Thursday, April 20, 4-5 p.m. in the D. H. Hill Jr. Library Fishbowl Forum
Have you been wondering what this hacktivist hubbub about data rescue is all about? Join our resident expert librarians in web archiving for this special Endangered Data Week event and find out! Learn to locate public data sets, what endangered data is, and what organizations are involved in data rescue work. This workshop will introduce students to topics such as web archiving and what it means to archive a website versus a dataset and will provide them with time to get hands on experience. Immediately after, join student groups for Data Rescue 102 to get hands-on experience in a data rescue marathon.

It's Endangered Data Week at NC State, and we're coming together to save all the data! Join student groups and librarians to put your data rescue skills into action. Librarians will be available to assist with all skill levels to rescue websites and data. All skill levels are welcome and encouraged to attend. Attending Data Rescue 101 is recommended but not required.
