King & the Klan: A Visual Experience

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. spoke at Reynolds Coliseum on July 31, 1966 following an 1,800-person march where the KKK protested his appearance. This short documentary film and digital installation, produced and curated by Margaret Baker, PhD Candidate in NC State's Communication, Rhetoric & Digital Media (CRDM) program, tells the full story of that day's events and its impact by featuring newly-discovered color film footage of both the Klan and Dr. King. The installation will also feature recently developed black and white images of the event. After viewing the film and walking through the digital exhibit installed in the Cyma Rubin Visualization Gallery, attendees will be invited to engage in a discussion centered on their reactions to the experience.
