Friends of the Libraries Young Alumni Leadership Council
The Friends of the Libraries Young Alumni Leadership Council is a group of NC State University Libraries’ supporters ages 21-40 that provide leadership and guidance for the NC State University Libraries fundraising and outreach activities targeted at young alumni and supporters. Council members educate and cultivate the next generation of Libraries supporters through initiatives such as:
- Hosting the Final Exam Week Essentials Fundraiser
- Planning Library Libations: Hunt Library After Dark
- Volunteering at Friends of the Libraries Events
Council members serve two-year terms, are current Friends of the Libraries members, and pledge additional support and time to further the work of the NC State University Libraries. Council Bios:
Emily Porter, 2015 Parks, Recreation, & Tourism Management: Emily Porter is a 3rd generation NC State alumnae. She loves to come back to Raleigh to see the Wolfpack play and to see how campus is growing yet continues to feel like home. Emily credits the CNR Library, D. H. Hill Jr., and Hunt for providing spaces to study and be successful. She currently works at UNC Charlotte in University Advancement.
Alana Allekotte, 2017 Graduate Certificate in Geographic Information Systems (GIS): Alana lives and works in Raleigh, and spends her free time doing zumba, playing with her dog, and traveling. Originally from Philadelphia, and with a background in k-12 education, she currently works within Enrollment Management & Services at NC State to implement novel technology and design internal training programs.
Paul R. Nolan III, 2017 Materials Engineering & Political Science: A recent NC State graduate and former Student Body President (2016-17), Paul is eager to continue his engagement with the University through the Friends of the Libraries Young Alumni Leadership Council. Paul earned degrees in materials engineering and political science while serving as a mentor and a community advocate outside of the classroom. Giving back to the state of North Carolina and the University, Paul joined AmeriCorps VISTA after graduation and began a year of service at NC State’s Institute for Emerging Issues (based in Hunt Library), where you can find him today. Paul cares about youth engagement, environmental stewardship, leadership development, and public understanding of science. He enjoys a good cup of coffee and conversation; feel free to reach out and chat.
Josh Privette, 2013 Political Science: Josh is a Class of 2013 Political Science Major from NC State. Currently, Josh serves as an Assistant Director at the NC State Alumni Association working with Students and Young Alumni on campus. Josh first became involved with the NC State University Libraries when he was a student leader on campus and has been a huge fan of the libraries ever since. When not showing off Hunt Library to his friends, you can find Josh out hiking, fishing, or at the beach.
Madison Shook, 2011 BA Political Science:
Anderson Shumate, 2017 Political Science: In addition to working at N.C. State in Advancement Services as a Prospect Development Analyst, I am also a graduate student in the Liberal Studies program studying the relationship between the UNC System Board of Governors and the N.C. State Board of Trustees. I serve on the Executive Board of the Graduate Student Association as the Vice President of Communications. I'm very excited to work with the Friends of the Libraries. I adore the annual book sale and I love the unique experiences the libraries bring to N.C. State, which I have taken full advantage of over the years.
