The NCSU Libraries has been named as a finalist for the Building Better Communities Award given by SirsiDynix, a major library technology vendor. The awards committee has narrowed a list of approximately 130 nominated libraries down to 15 finalists seeking recognition for innovative uses of new technology to improve their user communities. The specific project for which the NCSU Libraries has been nominated is the implementation of the new Endeca search interface for the library?s online catalog, which has made finding high-quality information much easier and more efficient.
The committee, consisting of independent library leaders from throughout Canada and the United States, will select five North American libraries to receive US$10,000 each for their creativity and accomplishments. Through the Building Better Communities Awards, SirsiDynix seeks to recognize library organizations that create better places to live, work and learn, while encouraging libraries everywhere to follow the examples of these outstanding institutions. Award recipients will be announced on June 24 at the American Library Association Annual Conference in New Orleans.
