Celebrating Archives Week!

The Special Collections Research Center in the NCSU Libraries joins other archives and libraries across the state in celebrating North Carolina Archives Week, October 20-26, 2008. As part of the celebration, Special Collections is sponsoring these events.

Home Movie Day: The Special Collections Research Center is assisting with Raleigh Home Movie Day, joining in the national celebration of amateur home movies, their historical and cultural significance and learning how to preserve them for future generations to enjoy. Bring your family's 8mm, Super 8, or 16mm home movies of vacations, holidays and family events for viewing and preservation advice. Home Movie Day is Saturday October 18th, 2008 from 1-4p.m. in Room G107, Caldwell Hall Basement, 2221 Hillsborough Street.

Archival Film Screening: NCSU’s archival footage will be shown alongside those of the State Archives and AV Geeks at a special archival screening event on Thursday, October 23 at 7 pm. Join us at the State Archives of North Carolina Auditorium at 109 E. Jones St. to see films on the “new” Research Triangle Park (1965), Jockey’s Ridge (1975), Wolfpack football and basketball from the 70s and other historic moving images featuring North Carolina’s best.

North Carolina Archives Week is an annual, week-long observance of the agencies and people responsible for maintaining and making available the archival and historical records of our nation, state, communities and people.
