100% Wireless

Wireless networking access has long been available in the four branches and certain areas of the D. H. Hill Jr. Library. As of August 2006, wireless coverage extends throughout the entire D. H. Hill Jr. Library, thanks to NC State's Communication Technologies (ComTech) department.

Anyone with a valid Unity ID and password can use the NC State wireless nomadic network. Simply choose to connect to the network named "ncsu." Then, open a Web browser to authenticate with your Unity ID and password. Once you have logged in, you can browse the Web, search the library catalog and databases, check e-mail, or transfer files to and from the network. For campus visitors who are not faculty, staff, or students of NC State, guest wireless access is also provided as a courtesy. More details on this and other Frequently Asked Questions about NC State's nomadic wireless network are available here .

Laptops that do not have built-in wireless capability will require owners to get a wireless networking adapter. Alternatively, cable connection ports remain available throughout D. H. Hill Jr.. If you do not have a laptop with you, you can borrow one for building use from the D. H. Hill Jr. Reserve Desk or from the circulation desks of the branch libraries. They are loaned for a four-hour period on a first-come, first-served basis.
