Guest and Affiliate Account Login Transition

What has changed?

The NC State University Libraries login system changed on June 24, 2026, requiring guest and affiliate users to log in with a valid Apple, Google, Microsoft, or Brickyard account. If you are a guest or affiliate account holder, we will need to update your account so that you are able to continue to access the Libraries online resources and to log into your library account. Your borrowing card will still be needed to check out books in person.

What do I need to do?

If you have not yet updated your account with the Libraries, please reach out to libraries_friends@ncsu.edu or library_askus@ncsu.edu.

Who needs to update their login?

Users who belong to the following NC State University Libraries user groups will need to update their login information with the Libraries.

  • Friends of the Libraries
  • Retired faculty and staff
  • Centennial Campus Partners
  • Employee spouses/partners
  • Osher Lifelong Learning Institute members
  • Cooperating Raleigh Colleges students and staff
  • Triangle Research Libraries Network students and staff
  • UNC System students and staff
  • Research Triangle Park employees
  • Government employees

No login updates are needed for active NC State students, staff, and faculty who will continue to use their Unity ID to access these services.

How does sign in work?

When you log into Libraries’ resources, you will see the option to choose which third-party service to log in with. You will select the service whose username you registered with the Libraries, then log in with the existing username and password for that service.

Why do you need my third-party login username?

We are adopting third-party login as part of a university-wide change to how guest and affiliate access are managed. Third-party login is secure. We will not have access to your account or password, and we will never ask you to share your third-party login password with us directly.

What will happen to my 811 or library number?

You will keep your 811 or other library card and number for borrowing items at the Ask Us desk. You will still need this card and a photo ID to borrow physical items.

Who can I contact if I have questions?

If you have any questions, please contact the Ask Us desk at library_askus@ncsu.edu
