These records contain files pertaining to the activities and administration of the North Carolina State University Burlington Textiles Library including correspondence and reference files kept by the library, clippings, brochures, and other information about topics related to the College of Textiles. They also include slide sets, a portrait of Wallace W. Riddick, Jr., the Dedication Plaque for the Burlington Textiles Library, the Quick Response Collection, Textile World Charts, and panels from past exhibits. Materials range in date from 1911 to 2010.
From 1944 to 1991, the Burlington Textiles Library was located in Nelson Hall. In 1991 it moved into room 4411 of the College of Textiles complex on the Centennial Campus at North Carolina State University. The Library provided services to faculty and staff, students, and the NC State Centennial Campus community and university affiliates. The Library supported the curriculum and research programs in textile chemistry, textile materials and management, and fiber and polymer science. By 2013, the Burlington Textiles Library’s collection had become a part of the James B. Hunt, Jr. Library, also on Centennial Campus.

The Textiles department of the North Carolina College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts (later North Carolina State University) was founded in 1899. Originally in the basement of Holladay Hall, the college offered courses such as carding and spinning, weaving, textile designing, and textile chemistry and dyeing. In 1901 the North Carolina General Assembly appropriated $10,000 toward the construction of a new textile building. This structure, Tompkins Hall, resembled a textile mill of the period and was completed in early 1902.
The department continued to expand and relocated to Nelson Hall in 1940. The Textiles Library was created in 1944, with Rachel Penn Lane as its first librarian. It was originally located in the main library, but it relocated to Nelson Hall in 1945. The name was eventually changed to the Burlington Textiles Library after 1954, when Burlington Industries funded its expansion. Groundbreaking for the new College of Textiles building, which included the Burlington Textiles Library, was on Centennial campus on the 17th of May 1988. By 2013, the Burlington Textiles Library’s collection had become a part of the James B. Hunt, Jr. Library, also on Centennial Campus.

This plaque reads "This library was provided for students of the School of Textiles, North Carolina State College, by the Burlington Mills Foundation to honor the memory of four alumni who left posts with Burlington Mills to enter the armed services of the United States during World War II and lost their lives in line of duty: Albert R. Lambert, Wallace W. Riddick, Jr., Peter Ihrie, Jr. Thomas C. Leake, III."
This exhibit contained 17 panels, but they were deaccessioned in March 2022.
