Pamphlet, certificate and letters of Everett N. Case. The pamphlet, The New Pressure Game in Basketball, contains 26 pages of instructions and diagrams that explain how to have a successful team. It also includes conclusions from Case's master thesis, An Analysis of the Effects of Various Factors on Accuracy of Shooting Free Throws in Basketball. Ther certificate, 17 August 1946, is a Certificate of Satisfactory Service on active duty in the United States Navy during World War II. One letter, 11 July 1946, from A. W. Radford, Deputy Chief of Naval Operations (Air), to Case commends Case for his superb performance of duty while serving in the Naval Flight Preparatory School, Depauw University. The other letter, 25 August 1944, from Clide E. Wildman, President of Depauw University, to Case, expresses appreciation for Case's work on the DePauw campus and wishes him luck and success in the Navy. Everett N. Case (1900-1966) was the head basketball coach at North Carolina State College of Agriculture and Engineering (later North Carolina State University) from 1946 to 1964. During these 18 years, his teams won 379 games, including ten conference championships. In 1949, Case founded the Dixie Classic Tournament. He received his B.S. in Physical Education from the University of Wisconsin (1923) and his Master's degree from the University of Southern California (1934). Case was also a highly successful high school basketball coach in his native Indiana. The Isaac Thomas Littleton Papers contains the 1968 doctoral dissertation of Littleton, titled The Bibliographic Organization and Use of the Literature of Agricultural Economics, from the library science program at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a letter, 1968, to Littleton from Rolland E. Stevens, professor of library science at the University of Illinois, regarding the publication of a shorter version of the monograph. This collection also contains personal correspondence, speeches, copies of photographs, historical information on North Carolina State Universities Library and aricle drafts. Finally, there are the following items regarding his retirement in 1987, greeting cards, correspondence, newspaper clippings, a guestbook, cassette tapes, and other related items. Isaac Thomas Littleton (1921- ) received an A.B. from the University of North Carolina in 1943, an M.A. from the University of Tennessee in 1950, and M.S. and Ph.D. in library science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1951 and 1968. He came to the D. H. Hill Library at the North Carolina State College of Agriculture and Engineering (later North Carolina State University) in 1959, as head of technical services and assistant director of libraries. The Robert Eugene Messick Papers, 1966-1970, contains documents written by Robert Eugene Messick. Included is his undergraduate thesis on a unified graphic system for the various campus documents and bulletins at North Carolina State College. The collection also contains two reports published by Messick. The first is entitled "The Gray Area Report" and describes his account of the events and issues surrounding his early release as Theater Assistant Technician with Thompson Theater. The second, entitled "Death of a Union," contends that students had lost all voice in the operation of the College Union at North Carolina State University by 1969. The final item is a text regarding the state of the College Union that Messick prepared for a meeting before the Executive Committee on the Board of Trustees of North Carolina State University. Robert Eugene Messick, born in 1941, attended North Carolina State College (later North Carolina State University) from 1959 to 1966. In May 1966 he received a bachelor's degree in product design, and then worked as a product design instructor and as a technician and designer in campus theatre productions at North Carolina State University. Stanley Backer (1920-2003) attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, earning degrees in engineering and textile technology. He joined the faculty at M.I.T. in 1951 and eventually became the head of the Fibers and Polymers Laboratory. His research in textiles engineering led to a greater understanding of fiber structure and fabric behavior. Backer also led a program to develop one of the first online information retrieval systems, known as the Textile Information Retrieval Product. He died in 2003. Stanley Backer's papers consist of articles, books, papers, theses and other material reflecting his textile engineering research while attending and teaching at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. A Research Files series contains collected information on fabric mechanics, texturing, and other topics. The Massachusetts Institute of Technology Special Program series contains material on programs in which Backer had participated. The Supervised Theses series includes those supervised by Backer while a professor at M.I.T. A series of Backer's published works is also included, as well as a list of his collected works. Less

Leslie Graham Berry's 1900 thesis, Transmission Dynamometer, contains 11 handwritten pages and four pages of drawings. The drawings include a view of the transmission dynamometer, a method of fastening the spring to the pulley, a method of fastening the spring to the disc, an arm for the springs, and detail of clock gear for the rotating prism. Leslie Graham Berry graduated from the North Carolina College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts (later North Carolina State University) with a Bachelor of Engineering degree in 1900.
