"Bringing the Outside In" Immersive Exhibit

On view Wednesday, April 16, 2025 to Wednesday, April 16, 2025

This unique experience brings the outdoors inside by recreating the sights, sounds, and atmosphere of a serene natural environment, featuring vibrant trees, and calming natural sounds.  This project sparks a conversation about the role of technology in fostering well-being and bringing us closer to nature, even in the most unexpected spaces.

About This Exhibit

Bringing The Outside In

An immersive multi-sensory experience that brings the outside world into a 360 degree space by simulating the aesthetics of the natural environment to provide potential mental relief. This is a final thesis project created for Clarissa Gernat's Masters in Media Arts, Design and Technology. This project combines the fields of design, technology and wellness to create meaningful experiences that offer people alternatives to engage with nature in calming and contemplative surroundings.
By bringing together the concepts of a large-scaled immersion with well-being, Clarissa used Attention Restoration Theory as the foundation for creating this project, guiding the design of an immersive, restorative experience based on the main components of being away, fascination, extent and compatibility. All of the 3D assets were created from scratch with hand-drawn textures and integrated into a game engine to build an animated natural environment.
