While mathematics is used to create scientific visualizations of all kinds, it's a two-way street. Visual thinking and visualizations are also very useful in math research, not just pretty pictures for popularizing mathematics or presenting results in simplified form. In this presentation, Radmila Sazdanović will present vignettes illustrating the role of visualizations in algebraic topology and topological data analysis, knot theory, and a new and rapidly developing mathematical discipline, diagrammatic categorification.
Dr. Radmila Sazdanović is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics at NC State.
