As a Principal and Higher Education Interior Design Leader with the DLR Group, Gretchen Holy is elevating interior design services on campuses nationwide. She has over 30+ years of experience, including several academic research, community college, and library master plan projects. In her work, she designs libraries that provide neutral spaces on campus, becoming assets to students, faculty, and staff alike—places to nurture the "whole student", whether that is digging into a research project or developing new relationships. She views libraries as a source of social infrastructure. Often at the pedestrian center of campus, they create links to other campus facilities and disciplines and bring people together to provide support regardless of age, race, ethnicity, or social class. In this age of "always on" and elevated anxiety, one of the most important services they offer is a place for study and contemplation.
