Data Science Training Intensive

Need some help building the foundational skills needed for the data work in your graduate program? Apply for the Data Science Training Intensive and set yourself up for success. The two-day training intensive will provide introductions to essential topics for graduate students working with data to prepare them for coursework, research, and future careers. While space is limited, participation in the training has no cost

Who should attend?

Any students enrolled in a graduate degree program at NC State University interested in gaining or developing their data science skills are invited to apply. We welcome applicants from all degree programs and disciplines. 

What will the training cover? 

Day one will introduce the data science lifecycle and its importance across different disciplines and methodologies. Expert instructors will provide sessions introducing participants strategies for organizing a data project, data storage options for graduate students, and version control. They will also provide a general introduction to computational thinking to prepare participants for tracks offered on day two. 

On day two, participants will have the opportunity to join one of three, half-day breakout tracks. Track topics include: 

  • Introduction to Programming with Python
  • Introduction to Programming with R
  • Introduction to Working with Spreadsheets
