State of Sound Sessions is a series produced by NC State University Libraries that features recorded live performances of a diverse array of artists, captured by the Make Media team. Captured live in distanced settings and broadcast on the NC State University Libraries Twitch channel, State of Sound Sessions gives you the chance to see artists up close and engage with them in the live chat that happens during the broadcasts. State of Sound Sessions are virtual, free, and open to the public.
Lioner is an adroit bard-rock band from sunny Raleigh, NC with ties to music jumbos such as The Weather, Colossus, Noncanon & Uncomfortable. They aim to delight & confound with their oddly catchy postpunk powerpop transmissions.
Heartscape Landbreak was formed by Taylor Holenbeck in 2009 in his home on the great plains of Kansas. Known for his work in The Appleseed Cast, Hospital Ships and Des Ark, Heartscape Landbreak has attempted to describe the beauty and pain of both the natural world and the human world through music.
Maxine Eloi is an actor, director and filmmaker. Classically trained at Boston University and the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts (LAMDA), Maxine received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting from Boston University in 2013. Since graduating, Maxine has continued to pursue her creative passions through film and theatre, and has also become an advocate for Social Justice through the arts. She writes indie-influenced songs with powerful and empathetic messages.
Atlanta rock trio floral print want you to know they’re not interested in writing songs that follow familiar patterns or linear progressions. Even their Bandcamp tags, including “bipolar” and “happy sad,” are direct—if somewhat crass—indications of their intent to present contrasts as compliments. Frontman Nathan Springer, keyboardist/drummer Paul DeMerritt, and bassist Joshua Pittman swirl post-punk, drone, and math rock into self-described “deconstructionist pop” that grants them the flexibility to shapeshift through a collaborative songwriting process born primarily from jam sessions.
Anyone can watch the livestream, and if you have a free Twitch account, you can send your questions and comments in the live chat. We're happy to answer your questions or refer you to someone who can help! Recordings of past streams are available on our YouTube page after the event.
