North Carolina State University, Athletics, Women's Basketball Audiovisual Materials 1974-1997, 2000-2013

Since their beginning in 1974, the NC State women's basketball team has been to the Sweet 16 forteen times and to the Final Four once, in 1998. Kay Yow coached the team for 34 years. Under her leadership, they went to the NCAA tournament 20 times and won four ACC tournaments.

The Women's Basketball team played their first game against Virginia at Reynolds Coliseum, with Coach “Peanut” Doak leading the Wolfpack to a 57-45 victory over the Cavaliers on December 7th, 1974. In 1975 Kay Yow was hired, and coached her first winning game, against College of Charleston on January 10th, 1976. On January 27, 1976 the Wolfpack played against the Tarheels in the first televised women’s basketball game in the state of North Carolina, ending with its first-ever victory over the Tar Heels, 68-58. On February 11th, 1978 The NC State Women's Basketball team participated in the first-ever Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Basketball tournament as the top seed. NC State lost in the championship game to Maryland. On February 10, 1980 NC State won its first ACC Tournament Championship with 85-75 victory over Maryland on the Terrapins’ home court at Cole Field House. The Wolfpack women played their first NCAA Tournament game, defeating Northwestern, 75-71, in Reynolds Coliseum on March 13, 1982. On December 8, 1990 The Pack set an ACC record that still stands today for most points scored in a game with a 137-65 victory at Western Carolina. In March of 1998 the Women's Basketball team reached the Final Four in the NCAA tournament.

The North Carolina State University, Athletics, Women's Basketball Audiovisual Materials collection contains primarily moving image recordings of North Carolina State University Women's Baketball games. These recordings were captured by the Department of Athletics for coaching and review purposes. Also included in this collection are recordings of team practices, recruiting films, highlight reels, and the Kay Yow Show. Materials range in date from 1974 to 2013, and some recordings are undated.

Recordings are arranged chronologically by season, and alphabetically within each season by opponent. Some seasons have general footage (not from a specific game or opponent); these recordings can be found listed after all of the game footage from that season. Recordings that could not be identified by date or opponent are found at the end of the list followed by unprocessed materials.
