The Ed Caram Negatives contain photographic negatives taken by Caram during his time as a student at NC State, from approximately 1969 to 1975. Topics photographed include athletics (particularly basketball and football), campus buildings, political rallies, student protests, outdoor events, concerts, daily student life, speakers, and the State Fair, among others. Negatives in Cardbox 13 and Microfilm Boxes 16 and 17 may have been taken by Nick England, another student photographer for the Technician. Ed Caram was a photographer for Student Media, with many photos appearing in the Technician student newspaper and perhaps the Agromeck yearbook as well. The North Carolina State University Student Orientation Committee records are dated from 1953 to 1974. The records include minutes and meeting notes, orientation program schedules, memos from committee members, Student Orientation Committee annual reports, and letters to Chancellor Carey H. Bostian and other administrators. During the spring of 1953 North Carolina State College Chancellor Carey H. Bostian appointed a freshman orientation committee to appraise the orientation program and make recommendations for improvement. The committee members were students, staff and faculty of North Carolina State College. The members were unanimous in their opinion that the program should not be confined to "Freshman Week," but should continue through the first semester. The new program included a welcome by Chancellor Carey H. Bostian, a Coke party sponsored by the Woman's Club, recreation activities sponsored by the physical education department, a social evening at the college student union and the traditional tea hosted by the Chancellor. Over a period of time additional activities and programs were added to the Student Orientation Committe agenda, such as an orientation for the parents of freshman students and for black freshman students. The North Carolina State University, Division of Academic and Student Affairs, Wellness and Recreation Records contain the official website of NC State Wellness and Recreation. The first quasi-gymnasium of NC State was located in the basement of Holladay Hall. Carmichael Gymnasium was built in 1961. In 2007, the Carmichael Recreation Center was opened. In 2009, Campus Recreation and Carmichael Complex, Facilities, and Operations combined to become University Recreation, which was transformed into NC State Wellness and Recreation during the 2017-2018 academic year. It includes cardio and weight training rooms, indoor tracks, racquetball courts, steam and sauna rooms, table tennis rooms, a gymnastics training area, outdoor basketball courts, and 12 outdoor tennis courts. The annual reports from the Divison of Student Affairs range in date from 1947 to 2009 and 2012 to 2013, and are comprised of annual reports relating to student affairs programs, including residence life, admissions, student health, and the Reserve Officer's Training Corps (ROTC). The Division of Student Affairs at North Carolina State University provided programs and services for students and the larger community to enhance quality of life, facilitate intellectual, ethical and personal growth, and create a culture which engenders respect for human diversity.
